In India, there is no clear definition or consensus about the tier structure for universities. But Central University of Jammu would probably be regarded as Tier 2 based on a variety of sources and rankings.

The general knowledge of the tier system is broken down as follows:

Tier 1: These generally comprise a few National Institutes of Technology (NITs), a few Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), a few well-known central institutions with a solid track record in academics and research, and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Tier 2: This more inclusive group may comprise some National Institutes of Technology (NITs), some state institutions, some private universities, and some central universities.

Candidates preparing for IITs are only required to appear for the JEE Advanced entrance exam after qualifying JEE Main. Within the Central University of Jammu campus, there are multiple hostels available for students, with four hostels designated for boys and four for girls.
