M.A. at Christ University Bangalore: Worth the Investment?

Pros:

* Knowledgeable and supportive faculty: Students praise the professors' expertise, friendliness, and willingness to help.
* Relevant curriculum: The course structure is deemed relevant, providing a good balance of theoretical and practical knowledge.
* Infrastructure and facilities: The university's infrastructure, including libraries, laboratories, and recreational spaces, is well-maintained and state-of-the-art.
* Placement opportunities: While not 100%, students report successful placements in industries such as media, publishing, and education, with packages ranging from INR30,000 to INR15 LPA.
* Internship opportunities: Internships are mandatory and provide valuable hands-on experience in the industry.
* Campus life: Students enjoy a vibrant campus life, with numerous events, clubs, and associations offering a wide range of interests.

Cons:

* Limited placement records: Although some students secure placements, others may not, depending on individual performance and career goals.
* No guaranteed employment: Placement success depends on factors beyond the university's control, such as individual skills and job market conditions.

In conclusion, while Christ University's M.A. programme has its strengths, particularly in faculty support, curriculum relevance, and infrastructure, students should weigh these against potential concerns regarding limited placement records and guaranteeing employment. Q:   How is the overall infrastructure of Christ University Bangalore?

A:
{Source: M.A. students & alumni]

Christ University Bangalore has a strict dress code and restricted timings for outside movements for girl students. The university provides multiple sports facilities and paid compulsory courses. The college has a busy calendar with several events every week, and the mess food is of acceptable quality. Attendance policies are strictly enforced, and there are consequences for breaking rules. The college culture is mostly English-speaking, and there are designated student representatives and teachers for support. The academic schedule is relatively hectic, and there are regular exams and tests. The teaching methodology focuses on practical discussions and case studies, and there are well-stocked libraries for research and reading resources. Security measures include guards and CCTV cameras, and outsiders cannot enter the campus without permission. The college has a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and takes strict action against those found guilty.

Based on the five reviews provided, the overall infrastructure of Christ University's M.A. in English with Communication Studies programme appears to be well-equipped and of high quality. Here are some key points that can be gleaned from the reviews:

1. Infrastructure: All reviewers mention that the college has modern infrastructure, including Wi-Fi, classrooms with projectors, libraries with a rich collection of books and journals and state-of-the-art facilities such as an amphitheater.
2. Hostel: While Review 3 states that the hostel is not good and there is no hostel food system, the other four reviews praise the hostel facilities, describing them as spacious, clean and comfortable with all necessary amenities such as bedding, tables, chairs and Wi-Fi.
3. Food: Most reviewers mention that the food served in the hostel and canteen is decent to good.
4. Library: All reviewers highlight the presence of two libraries with a wide range of books, journals and other resources.
5. Technology: The college is equipped with modern technology, including campus Wi-Fi and projectors in classrooms.

Summary: Based on these reviews, Christ University's M.A. in English with Communication Studies programme appears to have a well-maintained and modern infrastructure, including hostel facilities, dining options, libraries and technology resources. However, one reviewer had a negative experience with the hostel, so it may be worth investigating further before making a decision.

Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for M.A. students at Christ University Bangalore?

A:
{Source: M.A. students & alumni}

Success Rate of Placement Cell for M.A. Students at Christ University Bangalore

Based on the student reviews, here's what we found:

* Limited Job Placements: According to some students, "Hardly 20% of the students get jobs through the placement cell." This indicates that the placement success rate for M.A. students at Christ University Bangalore is relatively low.
* Job Opportunities Exist: Although the placement rate might be limited, companies like ANSR Source, Thomson Reuters, IBM, Ernst & Young, and Deloitte still visit the campus for placements.
* Value of Christ Tag: One student mentioned that despite the limited job placements, the Christ tag holds significant value, implying that the university's reputation plays a crucial role in opening doors for graduates.

In summary, while the placement cell at Christ University Bangalore faces challenges in securing jobs for M.A. students, the institution still offers opportunities for students to secure employment. However, the success rate remains relatively low, highlighting the need for improvement in this aspect.

Decent package and good course structure in 2024. Christ is the place to be.
Placements: Our placements are still ongoing while I am writing this review. The companies that've come for placements so far include Bosch, Mavericks, Joyride, Tata, etc. All the companies have had pre-placement talks and also given us detailed information on the job description and what their expectations are from us. The maximum package that we've received so far is 10 LPA, with the lowest being 3.8 LPA.
Infrastructure: There are 2 labs for the media department (1 for UG and 1 for PG). Both labs have the latest equipment and have soundproof walls to record or shoot your assignments. There are a lot of food options when it comes to the canteen. We have around 20–30 eateries on campus, ranging from lunch to snack options or even tea. The only problems are with sports grounds; you can't use them without permission. Also you cannot use it during class hours and you cannot use it after classes as University teams will take over for practice. Basically, the grounds are just there for the university, not for you.
Faculty: The exams are mostly submission-based, which keeps your creativity flowing and your brains running as you don't have to learn anything but apply whatever you know and have learned in class to the assignments. Most professors, although experienced, have a journalism background, which might not be ideal when you have a specialisation course like advertising or corporate communication, yet the course plan is set in such a way that you'll have a lot of self-learning happening for this course.

College is good for academics, average for placement, but bad for rules.
Placements: The placement starts from the second year onwards. Before placements, there is an orientation session. 50% of the students are placed in my course. The average salary is 6 lacs to 8 lacs. The top recruiting companies are KPMG, Deloitte, etc. The top job role is data analyst.
Infrastructure: Yeshwantpur campus is located in Nagasandra. Construction is going on. There is a gym. The college canteen is very good and the library is good. The college provided Wi-Fi facilities. Classroom is good. The college provides medical facilities. The college has football turf and badminton courts.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, qualified Ph.D.s, and very knowledgeable. The teaching technique is good. Every two to three years, the curriculum gets updated. Exams are very tough. The exam pattern changes every semester. Passing percentage is an aggregate of internal and external. For PG 50% and for UG 40%.
Other: I am currently pursuing a M.A. in Applied Economics. I chose it because of my interest. The college is very strict. There are various events and activities, such as Bharat Utsav, Darphan, and many more.

A short review of CHRIST University
Placements: The MA in Media (MAMCS) offers two specializations—Multimedia Journalism and Advertising and Corporate Communication. As a student of the latter, I have had a mixed experience. Unfortunately, despite the autonomy of the Department of Media Studies, the Central Administration interferes a lot, and as a result, our placements are substandard.
Infrastructure: While the hostel rooms are spacious, the rules and regulations are extremely strict, and violating even the most senseless rules will result in a hefty fine. The hostel also does not provide a mess service and instead forces its students to eat from outside. Keep in mind that the boys' hostel only offers four-sharing rooms, so if you like privacy, get used to having none.
Faculty: Professors are either uninterested in teaching and just go through the motions to earn their salary or are very passionate and bring a plethora of skills to the table. The curriculum, however, is too diverse, and I do not feel like I have learned much after the first semester.
Other: Media Meet is the annual flagship conference hosted by the Department of Media Studies. It has been my favorite part of the course so far.

Good college for M.A. in design.
Placements: Christ College provides good opportunities for on-campus placement in the department of design. Many design companies visit colleges for campus hiring. TCS and HCL are the top recruiters at the college. Amazon offers the highest package at INR 26 LPA.
Infrastructure: Christ College has good infrastructure, hostels are well managed and mess food is average but affordable. Wi-Fi connections are only available in classrooms and labs, not in the entire college. The canteen provides various food items at a very cheap cost.
Faculty: Christ College has a well-defined course curriculum that is up-to-date for current industrial needs. Teachers are knowledgeable and helpful. Semester exams are not very tough if you just go through the notes and books provided by the teacher.

I am very satisfied with teachers of this college.
Placements: Few students opt for placements as they prefer higher studies. Few students got placed in top companies. Top roles offered are technical writer and content writer. Top recruiting companies are Oracle, Accenture, etc.
Infrastructure: Our campus has efficient Wi-Fi for laptops which will be configured. Separate hostels are available for both boys and girls. The food served in the hostel is good. Wi-Fi is available in the hostel. There are two libraries in this college. Several books are available in the library. The food served in the canteen is decent. Many canteens are available on our campus.
Faculty: Teachers are very knowledgeable, friendly, highly qualified, and helpful. The course curriculum is relevant. The assignments and exams are well-designed. It makes you develop yourself and create a better version of yourself. Assignments are sometimes fun. If you invest in this subject, then it will give you the best results. You can learn various things in this college. The course builds your creativity and critical thinking as well.
Other: I chose this course because of my interest in it. Many fests are held in this college. Extracurricular activities are also conducted. Our campus life is great.

Second home of North East students.
Placements: By the college side, it offers many jobs, mostly in human resources and analytics, but low-paying jobs. I don't think it is worth it if you want a table-high salary after graduation. It has scope in the government sector in policymaking, schemes, and niti aayog. 70% of students who graduated from college are placed as policy analysts, HR, program evaluators, or social service managers. Many NGO and central authorities give internships; it gives knowledge. More IT companies—TCS, Hexaware, and Persistence—give jobs.
Infrastructure: Christ environment and campus life are memorable. I am from the northeast, and more than 50% of students in psychology and sociology are from the northeast. We celebrate our culture on ethnic day. College is strict in following rules and regulations Wi-Fi is available for all; any disciplined activity in campus and in the classroom leads to big problem. The library is big but always filled with people; the seating area is good. Our schedule is too tight; we not have time to play sports and do other things. Firstly, I say the college hostel is bad; we do not have separate washrooms; there are common washrooms so in my second year, I take a flat at Raj Nagar, which is 15 minutes away from campus and Mariam Nagai also has affordable rooms and PG. I have a problem in food, mostly South Indian food.
Faculty: Faculty members is the reason why I joined this college; they are qualified, independent, and have own thoughts; they are good in all areas. Discipline lovers like more discipline. The course is divided into 4 semesters. Every subject consists of 100 marks Subjects are general social theory, corporate sociology, culture and politics, etc. In third semester we need to do internship; it have 100 marks and 4 credits. Semester exam is difficult; class assessment have 45 marks and 5 marks for attendance and last term exam has 50 marks; a total 100 out of 40 is required to pass.
Other: I tried for JNU for the same sociology course but did not get a seat and many of my friends got admission here so I decided to take admission. Many festivals like Onam, Ganesh Chaturthi, Sankranti, and Durga Pooja are all celebrated.
