Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (popularly known as BAOU) was established in 1994. BAOU was established under the provision of Act No. 14 of 1994, passed by the Gujarat State Legislature. Located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University is a public university. BAOU is a UGC-recognised university and has also been accredited by the NAAC with Grade A++. Additionally, BAOU is a member of organisations such as the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), among others. It is also approved by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
BAOU University Ahmedabad, through its four schools of study, offers UG, PG, PhD, certificate, and diploma courses to students across Arts, Commerce, Science, Education, Management, and other streams. BAOU has established over 7 regional centres and more than 270 study centres across Gujarat. The university offers more than 80 courses in the distance learning mode.
