Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law does not offers direct admission. Aspirants who wish to get a seat in BA LLB (Hons) or LLM need to qualify CLAT. For PhD, the university conducts an entrance test. The university conducts a written test of three hours of a maximum of 70 marks. The selection for PG Diploma course is based on merit of the apsirants in the last qualifying exam.

The opening or minimum rank required for NLU Patiala is 1141 for BBA LLB and 1167 for LLM for General Category students under Vertical Reservation. CLAT Fifth Provisional Allotment list has been released by the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) for NLU Patiala admission to BBA LLB and LLM courses.

CNLU releases the round-wise CLAT cutoff for admission to NLU Patiala to B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. in Criminal Law courses. As per the CLAT 2024 Round 1 Seat Allotment result the All India opening and closing ranks for B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) are 502 and 1129. For LL.M. in Criminal Law, the opening and closing rank are 90 and 774 for the General category candidates.
