What is NERIST NEE?
NERIST Entrance Examination (NEE) is an offline entrance exam held across the North Eastern States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura). This entrance exam is conducted by the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) for admission to BTech, BTech LE, BSc (Hons) in Forestry, and certificate courses. NEE-I, NEE-II and NEE-III are held for admission to certificate courses, BTech & BSc (Hons) in Forestry, and BTech Lateral Entry respectively. The NEE-II is conducted with a single question paper of 150 marks of three hours duration. NERIST Entrance Examination 2025 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates can check below the eligibility to apply for NEE:
Age limit: The maximum Age limit as of 31st July of the current academic year is 23 years for the students of the general category (GE) (born on or after 1st August 2002), 26 years for OBC and female applicants (born on or after 1st August 1999) and 28 years for ST/SC/PD (born on or after 1st August 1997).
Academic qualification: Academic Qualifications for different schemes/modes of NEE-II:
- NEE-II (PCM): Applicants must have passed/appeared in 10+2/ Higher Secondary/Sr. Secondary with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).
- NEE-II (PCB): Applicants must have passed/appeared in 10+2/Higher Secondary/Sr. Secondary with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB).
Q: Is NERIST only for the candidates belonging to north-eastern India?
No. NERIST NEE can be given by candidates from all states. However, there will be reservation of seats with maximum weightage given to the seats reserved for candidates from North Eastern states of India.
The resrevation policy is as follows:
- State quota: 80% of seats are reserved for candidates of the 8 (Eight) North Eastern States (10% for each state) as state-quota. Besides this, 7% of the total seats are filled up with Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC) holders of these 8 (Eight) North Eastern States on merit basis.
- All India quota: 10% of the total seats are filled up with candidates under All India-quota.
- PD quota: 3% of the total seats are reserved for Physical Locomotor Disabled (PD) persons under PD quota.
Q: Is there any age limit to apply for NERIST NEE-II?
Yes, there is an age limit to apply for NEE-II. NERIST NEE 2025 Application Form
Candidates have to apply online for NEE. Note that the form must be filled out very carefully. After the final submission of the application form, no changes can be made by the applicant to their online application. A printout of the submitted complete Application form is to be retained with the candidate, which is to be submitted at the time of counselling/admission if selected.
How to fill out the NEE Form?
The entire process of filling online application form can be completed in below mentioned 9 steps:
- Registration: Register yourself for the online application process at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (Application Portal–www.neeonline.ac.in).
- Activation: Activate your online Application with the E-mail ID and Your Activation Code; send it your submitted Email ID/Mobile No in the registration process.
- Programme selection: Selection of the Program Type & Program Name and check eligibility.
- Filling the online form: If the applicant confirms the eligibility criteria and continues the Program, the next webpage appears. The applicant is required to click on “Application Details”. The application form will appear on the screen. The applicant is required to fill in the details in the application form.
- Uploading scanned images: In the next step, the applicant is required to upload scanned image files of their Photograph and Signature one by one (as specified in points 4 & 5 above).
- Fill academic details: In the next step, the applicant is required to fill in the Academic details.
- Choose exam centre: In the next step, the applicant is required to choose an Examination Centre preference.
- Review: Once all the details are filled in, the candidate is required to review the details entered and confirm. No edit will be allowed once the application is confirmed.
- Fee payment: Payment of fees through online.

The scanned passport photo and signature should be:
- within 3.5 X 4.5 cm in size
- maximum 100 KB in size
- ".JPEG/.JPG" format
NEE 2025 Application Fee
The application fee for NEE is as follows:
- INR 1500 for Gen/OBC/EWS
- INR 1000 for ST/SC/PH
Candidates can pay the fee using a Credit Card / Debit Card / Net Banking through the payment gateway available on the portal.
Q: My qualifying exam resulted is awaited for this year. Can I apply for NERIST NEE?
Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination this year and whose results are awaited are also eligible to apply. However, they must produce their mark sheets/ grade cards/ pass certificates on the day of counselling/ admission. Otherwise, their selection will be cancelled.
Q: Can I correct details in NERIST entrance exam application form after submission?
Once the form is submitted, candidates cannot make any corrections in the NEE application form. After the final submission of the application form, no changes can be made by the applicant in her/ his online application. Request for change of any kind of data such as category, center of examination, etc. shall summarily be rejected. Application once submitted shall be final.
Q: Is it necessary to appear in all the three exams of NERIST or appearing in only anyone exam will be enough?
NERIST conducts 2 entrance exams. The candidates do nt need to appear in all three. They need to appear for the NEE via which they can gain admission to the course of their choice.
To take admission in certificate course, candidates have to appear in NEE-I. For admission in BTech and BSc (Hons) in Forestry courses candidates have to appear in NEE-II. And, for admission to BTech LE, candidates have to appear in NEE-III.

Q: Is there a negative marking in NERIST NEE?
Yes, there is nagative marking in NERIST NEE. For all the examinations (NEE-I/ NEE-II/ NEE-III) with any paper code, the questions are of objective type with multiple-choice answers. Candidates shall have to attempt all the questions from all the sections of the relevant paper. For every wrong answer to a question, 25% (¼th) of the marks carried by that question is deducted. There is no deduction of marks for un-attempted questions.

NERIST Entrance Examination 2025 Admit Card
The registered candidates can download the NEE admit card from the official website as per the scheduled date. On the day of the examination, candidates must bring their NEE admit card, black ballpoint pen, etc., to the examination hall. Calculator (non-programmable) / Log tables are allowed for NEE-II, NEE-II (Vocational) and NEE-III.
In case of non-receipt of NEE admit card 2025, candidate must bring a photocopy of their Registration Confirmation page and two colour photographs.

NERIST NEE 2025 Answer Key
The NEE 2025 answer keys of MCQ-based NEE shall be uploaded to the admission portal after completion of the test. The answer key shall have the correct answers to all questions asked in the NEE exam. Candidates can challenge through online mode for verification of NEE answer keys if they are not satisfied with the respective question(s) / answer option(s), for a limited period of time.
The non-refundable processing fee for each challenge is INR 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred only) plus admissible charges, if any which will be required to be paid online only. Note that, challenges submitted by post/email in person are not accepted, only the online mode shall be accepted.
Q: Is there any answer key for NERIST entrance exam?
Yes. NERIST releases the answer key for the offline NEE test. The answer key contains the correct answer to all questions asked in the exam. The answer keys are uploaded for NEE-I, NEE-II and NEE-III to the admission portal after completion of the test.
NERIST NEE 2025 Result
The NEE 2025 results shall be declared on the NERIST website. There will be cut-off marks for the selection of candidates through NERIST Entrance Examinations. The result shall be calculated using the marking scheme of the exam and displayed on the website.
