Q: Can I apply for Law course admission at UPES, without applying for the ULSAT?
Yes, you can apply with board exam marks and CLAT or LSAT scores. but do check your eligibility before applying. The ULSAT entrance test is only for those who score less than 60% marks in their qualifying exam. Thus, candidates with more than 60% marks in their board exam and undergraduate exam can also apply to study UG and PG law courses offered by the School of Law UPES. CLAT and LSAT India scores are also accepted by the institution as a non-entrance pathway for admissions to UG and PG law programmes. Candidates with less than 60% marks in their qualifying exam and without CLAT and LSAT India scores will have to take the ULSAT for admission to the School of Law UPES.
Q: What is a non-exam pathway for admission to UPES Law courses?
The non-exam pathway for admission to UPES law courses is an alternative method of gaining admission to these programs without taking the ULSAT (UPES Legal Studies Aptitude Test) or other law entrance exams conducted by UPES. This pathway is designed to provide flexibility to candidates who may not have appeared for the ULSAT entrance exam. Instead, admission is based on scores obtained by candidates in other prominent law entrance exams, such as CLAT, LSAT India, SLAT, MH CET Law and others and other factors. Here's how the non-exam pathway for UPES law courses typically works:
Through CLAT:
Candidates can seek admission to the 5-year LLB programme without the necessity of taking the ULSAT exam, provided they possess a valid CLAT AIR (All India Rank) within the top 15,000. Such applicants will be granted direct access to the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds.
For the LLM program, candidates holding a valid CLAT PG rank and meeting the minimum qualifying marks criteria in Class 10 and Class 12 are also eligible to apply for specialization.
Through LSAT India:
Applicants who have achieved a percentile score of 60 or higher in the LSAT-India examination will be exempt from the ULSAT and will receive direct admission to the GD and PI rounds.
Via Board Exams:
Candidates who have secured a minimum of 80% marks in both their higher secondary and senior secondary exams, with five main subjects (including English as a compulsory subject), can be exempted from the ULSAT. They are eligible for direct admission to the 5-year LLB programs.
Q: Is ULSAT an online exam?
Yes, ULSAT is an online exam that is conducted in computer-based Test mode (CBT mode) from their home. It means candidates can take the examination from the comfort of their home or current location because the exam is online-proctored. To take the ULSAT, candidates will have to book a slot. This exam slot can be booked immediately after filling out the SLAT application form. They need to login to the official login portal of UPES, enter their registration ID and password, select the exam date and time, and then submit these details.
Q: What are the courses offered through ULSAT?
The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) conducts the ULSAT for admission to both UG and PG courses. These courses are the 5-year LLB, 3-year LLB, and LLM. Candidates who want to take admission to one of these courses need to take the ULSAT in Computer-based Proctored mode (from home). ULSAT is mandatory for admission to law courses for those who did not take CLAT or LSAT India and scored less than 60% in their qualifying exam. Candidates need a minimum of 50% marks in their respective qualifying exams to take the ULSAT entrance exam.
