How is CLAT Rank calculated?
Candidates can check the CLAT Rank through these steps to understand which NLU they can get.
- Calculating the Raw Score
Based on the marking scheme, i.e., one mark for a correct answer and -0.25 for each wrong attempt, the raw score is calculated. For example, if a candidate answers 100 questions correctly and 20 incorrectly out of 150, the score will be
Raw Score = (100 × 1) – (20 × 0.25) = 100 – 5 = 95
- Merit List
The consortium will then prepare a merit list based on the raw scores of all candidates. The one with the highest score will be marked Rank 1 and so on.
- Tie-breaking Rule
In case, two or more candidates score the same marks in CLAT 2027, the consortium will follow the sequence given below to decide the merit rank:

The CLAT Topper List will be released along with the CLAT 2027 Result. It must be noted that the admission to the NLU will be given based on the preference choosen by the candidate while filling the application form.
