Shiksha held a webinar on the upcoming DU admissions to clear class 12 students’ doubts.Read below the complete details.

With a lot of ambiguity around Delhi University admissions amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Shiksha hosted a webinar titled ‘Impact of Class XII Board results on DU College Admissions 2021’ to clear the doubts of the students who are planning to take admission in undergraduate courses in DU and affiliated colleges.

Panellists Dr Rama Sharma, Principal, Hansraj College, and Alok Ranjan Pandey, member of Admission Committee, Delhi University, discussed issues pertaining to the upcoming registration process for undergraduate courses that will start on August 2, cut-offs and entrance tests.

Dr Rama
Sharma

On being asked how the board results will impact cut-offs at DU, Dr Rama Sharma and Dr Alok Ranjan Pandey said, “Students should first celebrate their Class XII results instead of panicking. Admissions for the academic year 2021-22 will be done only through cut-offs based on merit, just like the previous years. Cut-offs for general category are expected to go high this year. DU will prepare cut-offs on the basis of data collected from colleges. It will first study the previous years’ data, including the number of admissions and cancellations under each cut-off for different courses, and on the basis of that, it will decide cut-offs.  On entrance tests, they said, “The admission process for professional courses will remain same. Entrance tests will be conducted for all 12 professional courses on the same pattern like before. The test will be in the online mode. No new entrance test will be conducted. This time, the entire admission process, including verification of documents will be online.”

When asked if DU is providing any support to students who have lost their parents due to the pandemic, they said, “DU colleges are taking all initiatives to provide maximum help to students who are affected by the pandemic. Earlier also, we had provided fee concession to underprivileged students.”

Dr Alok Ranjan
Pandey

On quota-based admissions, they said, admissions to extra-curricular activities (ECA) and sports quota seats will be done through certificates submitted by the candidates. Like previous year, there will be no sports trials for ECA and sports quota due to the pandemic. Students of employees, both teaching and non-teaching, will also be given admission in DU. Defence quota and NCC quota will also be applicable.”

On fake certificates, they said, “We have a committee that will check and verify certificates. Students should upload genuine certificates. If any fault is found at any stage, the admission will be cancelled.”

When asked about the criteria for gap year students, the panellists said, “Students with gap-year can take admission. They just have to give an undertaking on what they have done in the gap year. Cut-off of the current year will be considered. In a message to students, they said, “Read the registration form properly and then fill it to avoid any wrong entries. Don’t worry about the college as all colleges affiliated with DU are good. Keep visiting the official website of DU for latest updates. Save your log-in ID as it will be required throughout the admission process. If you have questions, just email them on the official ID. All genuine questions will be answered.”

Several students from across the country participated in the webinar. Below are a few questions they had posted in the chat box.

At Shivaji College, if you fail the internal exam, nothing to worry about, teachers give you another chance to give internal exams, and even they provide questions that would be coming in internals which helps a lot in getting good marks for students.
