UGC (University Grants Commission) has announced significant changes for the CUET UG 2025 exam, introducing a revised subject selection process that provides candidates with greater flexibility to align their choices with their academic interests and career goals. Additionally, the exam will now be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode to enhance efficiency and transparency in the evaluation process.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to release the CUET UG 2025 application form soon. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official NTA website for updates to ensure they do not miss important CUET UG notifications regarding registration, exam dates, and other crucial details.

Meanwhile, education boards such as CBSE, ICSE, and CISCE have already released the Class 12th board exam date sheets. The exams will be held between 13 February 2025 and 6 April 2025. Candidates can now check the exam schedules of their respective education boards in India. CUET UG 2025 is expected to take place in May 2025, soon after the board exams.

December 10, 2024: UGC announced major changes in CUET UG 2025 to ensure efficiency and credibility for students. Below are the changes:

  • The number of CUET subjects has been reduced from 63 to 37 (23 domain subjects and 13 languages). The discontinued subjects include:
    • Foreign Languages: French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Italian, Arabic, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Konkani, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Santhali, Sanskrit, Tibetan, Japanese, Russian, Chinese
    • CUET Domain Subjects: Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, Engineering Graphics
  • Admissions for removed subjects will be based on General Test (GAT) Scores.
  • The mode of examination will be CBT (Computer Based Test).
  • Students can select up to five subjects in the CUET exam instead of six.
  • Flexibility in subject choice has been introduced. Students can select subjects irrespective of what they studied in Class 12th.
  • The exam duration for all CUET subjects will be 60 minutes per subject.
  • All questions are now compulsory in the CUET exam.

Q:   What is CUET UG exam?

Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG is an entrance examination conducted for admission to undergraduation programs offered by various central, state, private and deemed universities. Candidates willing to take admission to undergraduation programme in streams like Science, Humanities, Commerce, Law and Management must appear for the CUET UG exam when conducted.

The entrance examination assesses candidates at various levels: Language, domain knowledge and general aptitude. CUET UG is conducted annually in computer based mode. CUET UG scores are accepted by more than 300 universities across India. 

Q:   Is CUET compulsory for taking admission in central university?

A:

Yes, CUET (Common University Entrance Test) is compulsory for admissions to undergraduate programs in most Central Universities in India. It serves as a unified entrance exam for students seeking admission to various undergraduate courses across participating Central Universities. Each university sets its eligibility criteria, but CUET scores are a primary criterion for admission. Exceptions may exist for certain specialised programs or institutions, but for most central universities, CUET is now an essential requirement for UG admissions.

Q:   Where can I get the CUET UG syllabus?

A:

Candidates can download the CUET UG 2025 updated syllabus from official webiste of National Testing Agency (NTA) once released. NTA will release the CUET syllabus 2025 for all subjects at exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG. Candidates can download the CUET subject wise syllabus PDF online. December 9, 2024: UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar engaged in a conversation with students who appeared for the CUET UG 2024 exam to discuss issues faced during the exam. Based on the interaction and a meeting with an expert panel, UGC plans to introduce changes in the CUET UG 2025 exam. Kumar said, “UGC will soon release a draft proposal of the revised guidelines for CUET UG 2025 and CUET PG 2025 and invite feedback and suggestions from students, parents, teachers, and institutions.”

CUET UG 2025 Registration Updates

CUET Registration 2025 will begin tentatively in the first week of February 2025 at cuetug.ntaonline.in. Students will be able to fill out the CUET UG Application Form online on the official website. Before filling the CUET registration form, candidates are advised to go through the instructions laid down by NTA. Applicants can now select five subjects in the application form, because of which the CUET UG 2025 application fee is expected to be revised. Any changes, if made, will be updated here on this page. Additionally, each university has separate eligibility criteria, so candidates must go through the CUET Eligibility Criteria of their desired CUET participating university/college to ensure a seat in the UG course they want to pursue.

Q:   When will be CUET UG exam conducted?

A:

CUET UG 2025 exam will be conducted tentatively in third week of May 2025. The mode of examination will be CBT (Cmputer Based Test). NTA will release the official notification for CUET UG exam date before the release of notification. Candidates will be able to know exam details through CUET UG information bulletin. NTA will conduct CUET UG 2025 exam in multiple phases depending upon the number of candidates registering for the exam. Registered candidates will know the exact CUET UG exam on release of the hall ticket. Candidates will have to report at the alloted exam centre on the day of the examination. The exam will be held in two to three slots each day depending upon the subject combinations chosen by the candidate.

Q:   What is CUET UG exam slot and timing?

A:

CUET 2025 will be held in two/three slots. The timing for the same will be released with release of CUET 2025 date sheet. Candidates will be able to know the exam centre and timing along with the release of CUET 2025 admit card. Tables below will be updated on release of the CUET 2025 date sheet:

Q:   Will CUET UG exam duration vary for each subject?

A:

No, CUET UG exam duration will not vary for each subject. The exam duration will be unform for all CUET subjects that is 60 minutes. Candidates will be required to attempt 50 questions within the given time limit. The marking scheme of each question remains the same.

Q:   Is it compulsory to attempt all the sections of the CUET question paper?

A:

CUET UG section I and section II, consisting of the language and domain-wise subjects are compulsory to attempt. On the other hand, the third section consisting of General Knowledge and aptitude questions is not compulsory to attempt unless it is the requirement of the programme the candidate has applied for. Candidates will have to choose the subjects while filling the CUET UG application form. In case candidates do not opt for the General Test, then they will be evaluated only based on their performance in Section 1 and Section 2 as per the requirement of the course and university that candidate has applied for. NTA will use the normalisation method to score candidates and universities will prepare the merit lists accordingly. 

Q:   Which universities can I get with 90-99 percentile in CUET UG?

A:

Candidates securing 90-99 percentile in CUET UG have chances of getting admission into the following universities:

  • University of Delhi
  • Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi
  • Banaras Hindu University
  • Allahabad University

Q:   Is CUET UG cutoff announced along with the results?

A:

No, NTA does not release the CUET UG cut off with the CUET UG results. The role of National Testing Agency ends after the declaration of results. CUET UG cut offs are released by the accepting colleges/universities after the cousnelling registration process is over. Only candidates meeting the CUET cut off criteria will be shortlisted for final admission. The CUET UG cut offs are usually released in August.

Q:   What is the last date to apply for CUET UG counselling?

A:

CUET UG counselling registration last date is not fixed and varies from university to university. Each participating university sets its own counselling registration deadlines. Therefore, candidates must stay updated with the admission and cut off dates of the universities they wish to apply to and ensure they complete the registration process within the specified time frame. Candidates are suggested to stay updated with CUET 2025 admission dates for individual universities to avoid missing deadlines.

CUET UG 2025 Exam Dates Updates

NTA will soon declare the CUET exam dates 2025 at nta.ac.in. It is expected that NTA will conduct CUET UG Exams 2025 in May/June 2025. The mode of examination will be Computer Based Test mode. The CUET exam date and slot timings will be determined based on the programme or paper opted for by candidates. Last year, over 13 lakh applicants registered for the CUET exam, and this number is expected to increase this year.

The National Testing Agency will release the CUET 2025 Syllabus along with the information brochure in PDF form. The CUET UG Syllabus is expected to remain the same as the previous year's syllabus. However, any changes made in the syllabus will be updated here. Candidates are advised to go through the CUET UG Syllabus of their selected subject to prepare for the CUET UG exam. The number of subjects for CUET UG has been reduced to 37 after discontinuing 20 foreign languages and six domain subjects.

If you apply for only Physics in CUET, the registration fee would be the same as the fee for "up to three subjects" in your category, as you are only selecting one subject; for General category, this would be INR 1000.
