Placement Process at Jadavpur University

Round 1: Resume Short-List Round

Round 2: Aptitude Test- It's based on your core subject knowledge, basic reasoning and aptitude

Round 3: Technical Round- The interviewer may ask common questions from your core subject. The duration of this round is around 1.5 hours. The level of difficulty is moderate and it has mostly MCQs. The test mainly has logical reasoning, aptitude and technical questions from mechanical, electrical and power plant-oriented subjects. Apart from the course curriculum topics, students should familiarise themselves with questions based on technical topics of fluid mechanics, electrical machines, power systems etc.

Round 4: One-on-one Round- Common random questions may be asked in this round

Additional Placement Rounds

In the case of some companies, there might be a Round 5: Group Discussion and Round 6: HR or Personal Interview Round. This round may be of 30-45 minutes in duration. HR Round may include common HR questions like strengths, weaknesses and relocation etc. Most of the questions are based on the student’s resume.

In the group discussion round, students are given a topic on which they have to present their views. This round requires excellent communication skills and positive body language. Everyone is given a chance to speak and students must exhibit confidence in whatever they are speaking. The duration of the group discussion round is generally 10-15 minutes.

Common Questions Asked in Jadavpur University Placement Rounds 

1. Software Engineer Interview Questions 

Resume Selection: A crisp resume has a higher chance of making it to Round 2 of the placement process.

Aptitude Test: Students will be required to answer questions on Coding (e.g. Leetcode Easy-Medium) and Aptitude (Quant, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation and English). This round can also be a coding round. Whenever writing a code, students should try to deduce the Time and Space Complexity of their code because it is extremely vital for qualifying the rounds of any coding interview process.

Technical Round: Questions about HTTP protocols, MongoDB queries, Sorting algorithms, and 2-pointer approaches are asked. Students may also be asked questions about their internship. For example, you may be asked about HTTP protocols and REST APIs if you have internship experience in those fields.

One-on-one Round: Questions about the preference for hybrid or work-from-home, discussion on cloud technologies and simple discussion on sports.

  • Find an element in a rotated array which was otherwise sorted
  • Find the Lowest Common Ancestor of two nodes in a binary tree with some modifications
  • Questions based on Pigeonhole sorting
  • Find the first petrol pump in a circular series of petrol pumps from where one can complete a total journey back to the first petrol pump. Distances between petrol pumps and petrol available at each pump were given.
  • Internship-based questions may be asked. For example, if your internship was in the drainage system area, questions like which cross-section of drainage pipe is preferred, advantages and disadvantages of combined and separate sewer systems etc may be asked.

To prepare for technical topics, students can refer to power plant engineering-related books and websites and course topics like electrical machines, power systems, fluid mechanics, etc. For the GD round, students can practice different topics which are situation-based, current affairs based etc. For the Technical-HR Interview Round, students should be thorough with their resumes.
