Vellore Institute of Technology does not follow any dress code for all working days in a week.
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has been established with the purpose of providing excellent regional and global college education. The highly driven students and professors are a source of ongoing pride. Their major feature is the institute's Memorandums of Collaboration with various leading universities. This institution provides more than 90 courses in Engineering, Technology, Science, Commerce, Law and Management.
Dress Code in VIT
Vellore Institute of Technology does not follow any dress code for all working days in a week. Students can wear dresses as per their wishes. On the first five working days such as Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday both girls and boys can follow formal or casual dress codes. This includes shirts, t-shirts, jeans and pants for boys including casual footwear or shoes. Girls can wear casual dresses like churidars, tops, jeans, skirts and leggings with sandals. On a Saturday, any dress code is allowed for both girls and boys. Permission is required for wearing traditional dresses like a vest, shirts and sarees on a normal day. Before entering the laboratories, an overcoat and shoes should be worn for students' safety purposes.
Features of the attire:
- Both formal and casual dresses are allowed on weekdays.
- Nightdressses are not allowed inside the library and laboratories.
- Sleeveless shirts or tops are allowed for both boys and girls.
- Though the dress code is not followed in VIT, short dresses are not allowed.
- Special permission is required to wear a saree for girls and a vest with a shirt for boys on a normal day.
- Piercing studs in one ear for boys and tattoos are allowed.
Mandatory items in the dress:
All the students are provided with identification cards when they get admission to the respective courses. Student must wear their identity cards inside the academic blocks, library, laboratories and during respective class hours.
Exemptions on special occasions:
At VIT, all celebrations, occasions and events are enjoyed and remembered. Special occasions such as New year, Diwali, Pongal, Christmas, Ramzan and all other religious festivals are celebrated. The college cultural festivals and sports events are also celebrated. The dress code for all these events and occasions is not specific. Students can wear dresses as per their wish. It can also be based on any colour pattern or theme of the events.
