BA LLB Syllabus FAQs

Q: What jobs can I get after BA LLB?

A: A person with a degree in BA LLB could seek various job opportunities across domains. Some roles include litigation attorney, corporate counsellor, company secretary, judicial services, cyber law, business law, public prosecutor, criminal counsel, etc. Certain jobs could be undertaken only after clearing the specified exams for that particular stream.

Q: What is BA LLB?

A: The BA LLB (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Legislative Law) is an undergraduate law degree program. In this integrated five-year degree program, students are offered expertise in subjects related to arts, humanities, sociology, history, economics, and various laws. The career prospects after obtaining a BA LLB degree include litigation attorney, solicitor, corporate counsellor, judicial services, etc.

Q: Which is better, BA LLB or LLB?

A: Both of these courses aim to provide optimum knowledge about the legal system. The difference is that a BA LLB degree is a dual degree for five years, whereas an LLB degree is for three years. If a candidate prefers having a double degree, then the BA LLB is recommended.

Q: Am I too old to pursue a BA LLB course?

A: There is no age limit to pursue this course. A candidate can pursue this course if they have secured a minimum of 45% aggregate in Class 12 examinations. Any student can pursue this course irrespective of the stream of studies. This law degree is open to all.

Q: What should you know about a BA LLB course?

The BA LLB course is an integrated five-year course in the streams of humanities and law. These streams cover legal and non-legal subjects like corporate law, criminal law, constitutional law, family law, environmental law, jurisprudence, labour laws, political science, economics, history, etc.

Q: Is CLAT compulsory for BA LLB?

A: A candidate must appear in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) exam. There are other exams, but CLAT is the most preferred to obtain admissions into the best colleges in India. For a three-year LLB degree, no eligibility exams are required. The candidates could directly seek admission based on merit.

Q: Which stream is better for BA LLB?

A: Generally speaking, the streams do not determine or play any role in the duration of this course. The candidate could choose any stream like arts, commerce, science, computer sciences, etc. Students can apply for this course after completing 12th grade. If the applicant prefers to choose the three-year LLB course, that could be done after completing an undergraduate program.

Q: Which is better, advocate or lawyer?

A: The terms "advocate" and "lawyer" are not synonyms. An advocate is a person who has courtroom experience and can conduct cases. Lawyers usually have academic experience and do not have courtroom experience. So, the basic saying is, "All advocates are lawyers, but not all lawyers are advocates". A student who has completed the law course has to appear in the All India Bar Association (AIB) to become an advocate.

Q: Is BA LLB very tough?

A: No, the BA LLB is not a tough course. The level of toughness purely depends on how you study and allocate time for each subject every day. It is a professional course, and dedication has to be given to ace the programme with better results.

Q: Should IAS students pursue BA LLB?

A: Yes, the BA LLB is a good course for pursuing IAS. Various law streams inter-related with arts streams have a higher success rate in making it to the top in IAS exams. Since the law has become a common profession amongst students, IAS aspirants could choose this course without a doubt.

Q: Which placements are available after BA LLB?

A: Students that successfully complete the BA LLB course can get placed in roles like litigation officer, criminal counsel, legal counsellor, judicial prosecutions, etc. Candidates that do not seek placement through colleges or universities could apply for government recruitment exams like the UPSC or take their career further by giving judicial exams like the PCS.

Q: Can LLB be done in 3 years?

A: Yes, the LLB can be done in 3 years, but only if the candidate has secured an undergraduate degree. In this course, students cannot choose their subjects. They have to study all the subjects prescribed by the university mandatorily.
