Q:   Can I attempt WBJEE in Bengali?

A:

Yes. As per the official WBJEE exam pattern, the candidates will be able to attempt the entrance examination in Bengali. Two language options will be provided to the candidates for the examination. Candidates will be able to attempt WBJEE in either English or Bengali. Since the question booklet will be available in both languages, the candidates will be required to let the invigilators know about their preference in the centre. No other medium of language will be used by the authorities. There will be no difference in the questions.

Q:   What is the exam pattern of the WBJEE?

A:

WBJEE exam pattern outlines the details regarding how the entrance examination will be conducted by the authorities. WBJEE will be held as a pen-and-paper-based test. The total duration of the examination is 4 hours - 2 hours for Paper 1 (Mathematics) and 2 hours for Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry). The candidates will have to answer a total of 155 multiple-choice questions. In the paper, the questions are divided into three categories. Category I and II questions will have only one correct option while Category III questions will have one or more correct options. For every wrong answer in Category I and II, 1/4 mark will be deducted. There is no negative marking for Category III questions.

Q:   What is the duration of WBJEE?

A:

According to the WBJEE exam pattern, the duration of the entrance examination is 4 hours. For each paper i.e., Paper 1 (Mathematics) and Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry), 2 hours have been allotted, and the candidates will have to complete both the sections within the allotted duration. Multiple-choice questions of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics have to be answered by the candidates within 4 hours. No extra time will be provided to the candidates to complete the entrance examination.

Q:   What is the examination mode of WBJEE?

A:

WBJEE will be held as an offline test i.e., a paper-and-pen-based test. During the 4 hour examination, the candidates will have to attempt the offline test and answer multiple-choice questions in the OMR sheets. At the examination centre, the candidates will be provided with the OMR sheets and pen for the examination. Through the entrance examination, the candidates will be able to assess the candidate's knowledge in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Q:   What type of questions will be present in the WBJEE question paper?

A:

WBJEE question paper will consist of objective multiiple-choice questions. During the examination, the candidates will have to choose the correct answer/answers from the given options. WBJEE questions have been divided into three categories - Category I (only one answer option is correct, Category II (only one correct option) and Category III (one or more option will be correct). On the OMR sheet, the candidates will have to select the correct option by darkening the appropriate circle completely with a blue or black ballpoint pen.

Q:   What are the sections in the WBJEE exam?

A:

WBJEE question paper will consist of two sections - Paper 1 (Mathematics) and Paper 2 (Physics and Chemistry). While Paper 1 will consist of 75 questions, Paper 2 will have 80 questions. All questions will be multiple-choice in nature. The duration of each paper will be 2 hours. To qualify the entrance examination, the candidates will have to attempt both sections. Q:   How are the questions divided as per the WBJEE exam pattern?

A:

According to the official WBJEE exam pattern, the questions will be divided into three categories. Each category will have its own marking scheme and questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates are advised to correctly answer as many questions as they can to secure high marks in the examination.

  • Category I - 110 multiple-choice questions where only one answer option is correct.
  • Category II - 25 multiple-choice questions where the candidates will have to select only one correct option. 
  • Category III - 20 multiple-choice questions where one or more option will be correct.

WBJEE 2025 Exam Pattern - Marking Scheme

The category-wise marking scheme as per the WBJEE 2025 exam pattern is given below.

Category I

Each correct answer will be awarded one mark.

An incorrect response will yield a loss of ¼ mark

For any combination of responses with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks.

Category II

Only one option is correct, the correct response yields two marks.

An incorrect response will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks

For any combination of responses with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield a -1/2 (25% negative) mark.

Category III

One or more options may be correct. Only correct responses will yield 2(two) marks.

There is no negative marking.

Q:   Is there negative marking in WBJEE?

A:

Yes. There is negative marking in WBJEE. The scale of the negative marking depends on the category that the question falls in. Candidates can check the category-wise negative marking of WBJEE below. 

  • Category I - An incorrect response will yield a loss of ¼ mark. For any combination of responses with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield -1/4 (25% negative) marks.
  • Category II - An incorrect response will yield -1/2 (25% negative) marks. For any combination of responses with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will yield a -1/2 (25% negative) mark.
  • Category III - There is no negative marking.

The official marking scheme is released through the WBJEE exam pattern. Candidates are advised to check the marking scheme to understand how their correct and incorrect answers will be marked by the authorities. 

  • Category I Questions - Each correct answer will be given one mark. An incorrect response will result in a loss of 1/4 mark. For any combination of responses with more than one option, the said answer will be treated as incorrect and will result in a loss of 1/4 marks.

WBJEE 2025 syllabus will be released online. Candidates will be able to access the list of subjects, units and topics to be studied for the entrance exam through the WBJEE syllabus 2025.
