West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) will soon release the official WBJEE 2023 eligibility criteria on the official website. Candidates planning to appear for the exam must ensure that they fulfil the WBJEE eligibility criteria 2023 which include educational qualifications, age limit, number of attempts and domicile eligibility. Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before applying for the exam and keep all the documents ready for upload at the time of filling WBJEE 2023 application form. The applications that do not comply with the prescribed WBJEE 2023 eligibility norms will be rejected by the WB Board at the time of the document verification process. The documents to be uploaded at the time of exam registration include academic qualification certificate, age proof and category certificate. Read to know more about WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2023.

WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2023 – General Academic Qualifications

Take a look at the general academic qualifications required for admission to the engineering and pharmacy courses offered at colleges in West Bengal through WBJEE.

For admission to engineering courses

Candidates applying for admission to undergraduate engineering courses through WBJEE must comply with the following eligibility norms:

a) Candidates must have passed the qualifying examination (10+2) with Physics and Mathematics along with anyone Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Applications / Technical Vocational subjects with individual pass marks in both theory and practicals for all three subjects.

Q:   Will the WBJEE merit list be available online?

A:

WBJEE merit list will not be released online. The authorities will prepare the merit list of WBJEE on the basis of the candidate's obtained scores in the entrance examination. WBJEE merit list is prepared to be used for the counselling and admission process. Based on the merit list, the candidates will be allotted ranks and will be selected for the WBJEE counselling. It is to be noted that the merit list will different as per the course and category selected by the candidates.

Q:   How many attempts are allowed for WBJEE?

A:

WBJEE is held as a one-day examination. The authorities conduct WBJEE annually to select candidates for BTech admissions into the participating institutes. The entrance examination is held once in a year and the candidates will not be given a second chance in the same year. If the candidates are not able to apply for WBJEE or have not secured the required scores, then they can apply for the entrance examination next year. The authorities will not accept any requests for change of WBJEE exam dates. 

Q:   How can I select the WBJEE exam centre?

A:

Candidates will be able to select their choice of WBJEE exam centres online while filling out the application form. During the form filling process, the candidates will have to select and submit three preferred WBJEE exam zones. The selection of the zones have to be done in the order of preference. The authorities will allot WBJEE exam centres as per the candidate's preference and the corresponding availability. In case the candidate's first preference is not available, then the second choice will be considered. 

d) The board of qualifying examination should be recognised by the Central or State Government.

a) Candidates must have passed the 12th standard qualifying exam with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics / Biology as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks in both theory and practice for all three subjects.

b) Candidates must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in the case of SC, ST, OBC, PwD) in all the three subjects taken together.

c) Candidates must have passed the English subject in the 12th qualifying exam with at least 30% marks.

Q:   What are the scholarship schemes offered in West Bengal through WBJEE?

A:

The authorities will offer scholarships to WBJEE candidates under the Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) scheme. Candidates who have performed well in their academics and have secured good scores in WBJEE will be eligible for the scholarships. The details regarding the scholarship schemes will be released online by the authorities. Candidates are advised to check the scholarship details carefully to know if they are eligible for the exam or not.

Q:   Why is it important to verify WBJEE eligibility criteria before applying for the exam?

A:

All candidates will be requied to comply with the WBJEE eligibility criteria. The official eligibility criteria will be prepared and released online by the authorities of WBJEEB. For admissions into the participating colleges of the state, the candidates will be required to meet the minimum eligibility criteria. Candidates, who do not meet the minimum eligibility requirements, will not be allowed to appear for the entrance exam and their applications will be cancelled by WBJEEB.

Q:   Do authorities accept objections against the WBJEE OMR sheets?

A:

The authorities will accept objections against the WBJEE OMR sheets. The final date to raise objections will be announced online. However, for every objection, INR 500 has to be paid online. To access the WBJEE OMR sheets, the candidates will have to log in using the application number and date of birth. The authorities will not use any other mode to release the WBJEE OMR sheets.

Q:   How many seats are reserved for WBJEE TFW category?

A:

Tution Fee Waiver (TFW) category seats are reserved for those candidates for economically backward students who have a good academic record. 5% TFW seats, which are supernumerary in nature will be available for admissions into the WBJEE 2024 participating institutes. The TFW rank in various institutes will be considered for admissions. WBJEEB will announce the details regarding the TFW category reservations, once the application and admission process commences. 

Q:   What is the TFW category? Can I apply for the TFW category?

A:

Tuition Fee Waiver known, as TFW, is a special category. Candidates who want to apply under the WBJEE TFW category will have to upload an Income Certificate. If they meet the eligibility criteria, then the candidates will be eligible for Tuition Fee Waiver. As per AICTE guidelines, vacant seats under the TFW category will not be converted to the General/unreserved category.

d) The board of the qualifying examination must be recognised by the Central or State Government. However, non-formal or non-classroom-based schooling pass-outs shall not be eligible for admissions.

WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2023 - Domicile Specific Norms

Only those candidates will be treated as Domicile of West Bengal who is either,

a) Residing in the state continuously for a minimum of 10 years or

b) Whose parent(s) is/are a permanent resident of the state with a permanent address

The WBJEE exam is open to candidates from all over the country. However, the West Bengal Residential/Domicile requirement is applicable for admission to colleges in West Bengal as well as for admission under the reserved category quota.  

The West Bengal Residential/Domicile requirement is also applicable for candidates applying to the Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) scheme through WBJEE.

Candidates will have to produce their domicile certificates at the time of WBJEE 2023 counselling. If the certificate is found invalid, their candidature will be cancelled.

Must have passed 10+2 with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and also 50% marks in aggregate

Must have appeared for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture, New Delhi or Paper 2 of JEE Main.  

The above eligibility norms are applicable for BArch courses offered in any of the WBJEE colleges except the Jadavpur University, for which the academic eligibility criteria are given in the institute-specific eligibility norms below

Candidates should have appeared for NATA conducted by the Council of Architecture Delhi.

The West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences

BTech (Dairy Technology) course

Candidate must have passed the Qualifying Examination i.e. the ‘10+2’ with at least 50% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to WBJEE 2020) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular Class mode.

WBJEE 2023 Seat Reservation

As per the Government of India, the following categories will be considered for admission in West Bengal through WBJEE:

Availability of such reserved category seats shall be restricted to students domiciled in West Bengal only. Candidates seeking admission for reserved category seats will have to produce a valid certificate issued by the Government.

Seats for admission through JEE Main 2023

Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate engineering courses offered at self-financed engineering and technology colleges in West Bengal can also apply for admission with JEE Main scores. 10-50% of seats are available for candidates applying for admission through JEE Main. However, allotment of seats to such candidates will be done through the WBJEE counselling process only.

Seats for admission through NATA 2023

Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate architecture courses offered at colleges in West Bengal will have to appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture). However, the allotment of seats to such candidates will be done through the WBJEE counselling process only.

How many attempts are allowed for WBJEE?

There is no limit on the number of times a candidate can apply for the WBJEE exam. However, there is an age limit set for candidates seeking admission in West Bengal through WBJEE scores.

Candidates applying for the exam should be a minimum of 17 years old as of December 31 of the admission year. There is no upper age limit to appear for the WBJEE exam.

However, candidates seeking admission to Marine Engineering courses in the state through WBJEE should attain 17 years of age as of December 31 of the admission year and should not be more than 25 years old.
