Students cannot be detained based on pre-board exam result: CBSE

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified that schools cannot detain students and stop them from taking board exams based on the marks of their pre-board exams. This was announced by the board through its Twitter account in reaction to tweets made by students. Several students have complained that their schools are not giving them the admit cards for the upcoming board exam. The reason those schools gave was that students were supposed to clear pre-board exams first then they could be granted the admit card for the board exams, according to the students who had tweeted.

The board has replied to one such tweet and asserted that pre-board help students to know how well they are prepared for the board examination. But a student cannot be detained from sitting in the board exam if otherwise eligible. One such candidate who had tweeted regarding the admit card confirmed the receiving of admit card through a tweet.

CBSE board exams have commenced for both class 10 and class 12. The vocational papers and papers for which there are fewer students are being conducted first. On the first day of the board exam, the exam was conducted for 36 papers in which overall 55364 candidates had appeared. On the next day, almost 13000 candidates appeared for 16 papers. Schools are allotting admit cards to students 4-5 days prior to their exams. The class 10 board exam will be conducted until March 20 and the class 12 board exam will be conducted until March 30.
