- Read moreCandidates who has passed the 10+2 or its equivalent examination is eligible to apply provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not being less than 100. No candidate shall be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 3 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular Course of Study after passing the previous qualifying examination. For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Honours Course, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education /Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. Candidate must have aggregate: 50%, and Passed in Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics However, Candidates belonging to the SC/ ST or OBC Community must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate at the previous qualifying examination.

The best college in Kolkata: Asutosh College.
Placements: A minimum 90% of students were placed in my course. The highest package offered in my course is 1-2 crores per annum. ONGC, Oil India, Cairn Energy India, GSI, Coal India, and Vedanta Resources are some of the top recruiting companies for my course. 85% of students got internships.
Infrastructure: We have two medium-sized classrooms and a geology laboratory. The hostel facility is not so good. The canteen is present. The food quality is good there. Medical facilities are also present. We have our internal football and cricket tournaments, also yoga and gym classes.
Faculty: All the professors are highly qualified and helpful. They are all very friendly and have a very beautiful teaching quality. They are not only our mentors but also our guardians. The course curriculum is very relevant. The pass percentage is 95%. Semester exams are moderate to high .
Other: I have chosen this course to learn about Earth's information and internal structure. Geology allows us to learn so much about the Earth that we previously did not know. We have no campus in South Kolkata. But in Salt Lake, we have a beautiful campus. We have a SVMCM scholarships but there are some eligibility criteria.

You can go for this college to pursue geology course.
Placements: After B.Sc., you will not get a job directly as it is obvious. But this college is good for your higher education. In this case, geology from Asutosh is great. Many students crack JAM and go to IITs or NITs every year. Self-study matters the most.
Infrastructure: There are 2-3 rooms for the geology department with Wi-Fi facility. Lab facilities are good. Nothing will remain unlearned. Even the field-work of 7 days every year is finely covered by our professors. The college hostel is located at the college's 2nd building, which takes 1.5 hours to reach from the main building, but the environment is good. Food in the canteen and hostel is good. Harshi park is the playground for Asutosh College, which is a 5-minute walk away. You can play cricket, football, badminton, etc., sports there. A common room is available with some indoor games facilities like carrom, chess and table tennis.
Faculty: Around 5 professors are PhD holders, and 2 others qualified M.Sc. They are very helpful. You can approach them on the phone when you need their help. They are always ready to help students. They are strict about studies and also friendly other times. Our professor was also in the geologist team of Mangalyaan, and there is a lab from ISRO for him to research about luna. Teacher's day, fresher's and farewell parties are celebrated. Now (2021), most of our professors are also taking part in some curricular activities. So, it is a great chance to show your talent. The college arranged an annual fest called Uddan, and sports like football, badminton, cricket league, KRIRA and winter carnival.
Other: Unlike most of the colleges, Asutosh College is just a building. So at first, I thought it would not be enjoyable, but the footpaths, the road beside the college, the cha dokan felt very good after some days. Students enjoy their campus life in groups. As the college is in proper Kolkata, the crowd is high. The department has a soothing environment. Classrooms are not much big, so students feel congested. I think in West Bengal, Asutosh College is the best for some subjects among which geology is one. The professors, teaching quality, fields, surroundings and geology department are all pretty good for a student who wants to shine in geology. Providing 1-2 extra labs could be better. Geology department is planning to organise something like a fest or reunion. The college arranges a fest called Uraan, where some celebrity singers come and perform for all of us. Krira is the annual sports, Lalon to Lenon is winter carnival, ASL is the soccer league, APL is the cricket league, badminton league, Saraswati Pooja, etc., are organised. You can apply for all the government scholarships, but there is no extra scholarship from the college.

Asutosh college provides opportunities to those who seek it.
Placements: After completing my Bachelor's, I got into Vedanta as a part-time mineral extraction coordinator. I was lauded amongst others for having a Calcutta University degree as it is revered across the world. I got placed for a package of 2 lacs per annum package, and my percentile was 8.6, whereas the toppers who scored 9.2s got the packages of around 2.8 lacs per annum.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are huge and good. Though the geology department doesn't have any lab of its own, the lab instruments were top notch, like the microscopes, hand specimens and fossils. The common room has table tennis and various other indoor games. The canteen offers delectable food items at a very compromising rate.
Faculty: The teachers have been a great help. The student to teacher ratio was 10:1. They often took us out for workshop events to provide us with the proper exposure. The geology department has 9 teachers and all of them being PhD holders. Had it not been for them, we wouldn't have come as far as we have.
Other: The college hosts semi-annual cricket and football events where the departments compete with each other.

According to me, this is the best college.
Placements: The placements were very good, and many of my seniors got their jobs through this. The interview helps us to overcome our fears which we shall face in our future interviews. The companies which came were very well reputed, and they were among the best companies in the state. The salary which they offered was very reasonable and well satisfied.
Infrastructure: The campus has a library, WiFi facility, labs, well-established and classrooms. Some medical facilities are also available. Every year, the college holds sports and many extracurricular activities. Thies college also has the hostel facilities. This college has two campuses. Within the tenure, I haven't faced any problem regarding the infrastructure of the college.
Faculty: The faculty of our department is very good. The teachers are very frank, and they help us out with every problem that we face. Our department arranges the field work by which we get to learn more about the things that we study. During the field work, the teachers are very caring and very responsible.

Other: Professors are very approachable. It has one of Kolkata's best Faculty Members. Attending classes has become compulsory now, especially for the students of Honors courses. The Professors help you with the projects, hence it becomes easier. However, apart from studies, curriculum activities are not very active. Politics rule the college. It provides admission to students with very high percentage, hence the academics are quite focused.
