Q:   Is B.A. at B Borooah College worth the investment?

    A:
    {Source: B.A. students & alumni}

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's what emerges:

    Pros:

    * Good faculty: Many students praised the teachers' qualifications, knowledge, and helpfulness.
    * Comfortable environment: The college has a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere, with spacious classrooms.
    * Library and facilities: While the library may be small, it's comfortable, and the college offers basic facilities like a computer lab, smart classrooms, and a canteen.
    * Opportunities: As a relatively niche course, B.A. in Education at B Borooah College seems to offer decent placement opportunities, although these might be mostly within the education sector itself.

    Cons:

    * Limited industry relevance: Some students felt that the course didn't adequately prepare them for the workforce.
    * No company visits: Unlike technical colleges, B Borooah College doesn't attract companies for recruitment drives.
    * Limited internship opportunities: Although some students secured internships, others reported struggling to find opportunities.
    * Infrastructure issues: Reviews mentioned concerns about Wi-Fi availability, maintenance of hostels, and cleanliness.

Verdict: While B.Borooah College's B.A. programme shows promise in terms of faculty and environmental factors, its limitations in providing industry-specific skills and opportunities might impact long-term employability. For students genuinely interested in pursuing a career in education, this course could still hold value. However, those seeking broader employment prospects or direct industrial connections might consider alternative options.

Remember that individual experiences vary, and your decision ultimately depends on your personal goals and priorities.

Very much satisfied about the college because of the teaching staff.
Placements: Almost 60 students were placed in the course. The cut-off of the course is a bit high, so not many students get admission in it. There are many roles offered in my course. They are Climate change analyst, climatologist, emergency management specialist, and geomorphologist.
Infrastructure: The facilities offered by the college, Borooah, are really good. The building is really good, and the library is excellent. There is a good Wi-Fi facility in our college campus. There is a boys’ hostel under the college campus with very minimum facilities. There are 2 canteens in the college campus. The food price is really affordable for the students.
Faculty: The teachers are really good and friendly. They provide students with easy and helpful methods to learn. The semester exams are not so tough if you attend the college regularly and clear your doubts. And the course is really curriculum-relevant. Yes, it makes the students industry-ready.
Other: I was always interested in studying geography. The best thing about the course is that we can learn more about our Earth if we study geography.

B.A. (Hons.) in Economics - Batch of 2024

A good experience with lots of memories.
Placements: The Department of Economics at B. Borooah College, Guwahati, is one of the oldest departments. The professors are very highly educated and knowledgeable. Almost 50% of students were placed in the course. Monthly seminars were being organized with the collaboration of banks such as SBI and RBI. Around 50% of students are being involved in different internship programs in different companies and NGOs while doing their graduation.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are well-built. B Boruah College, Guwahati, is one of the oldest colleges in Assam. The economics department is fully equipped with two separate classrooms for the major students. It has a department library where all kinds of study-related materials are available. There is a boys hostel right behind the college campus, but there? is no girls hostel as of now. Three times meals are being provided to the hostellers on time. There? is one canteen right beside the college library, which is always available for the students needs. Yearly college week events are organized by the student union during Feb-March. All kinds of sports and games activities are organized for the students to showcase their talents.
Faculty: Teachers in the colleges are very qualified and knowledgeable. They help us with every kind of problem the students face. Teachers are always available to solve any query regarding the course. Semester exams are held from time to time with advanced questions for the students to indulge in academically. Almost 90% of students pass the exams with flying colors.
Other: I was deeply interested in economics while in class 11-12, which led me to take economics as a major in my graduation. The best thing about the course is that it gives you a better perspective about the economic conditions of our country. How the country's economy works on the ground level. Although I wish that there were more professionals available for the course. The college organizes its college week every year with full enthusiasm for the students to excel not only academically but also in every other field.

    Good facility, and NAAC A++.
Placements: To be fair, there isn't any actual placement offered by the college itself. But about almost 80% students took up B.A. as their course. There's not much recruitment to be expected from this course as people usually go for government exams straight after this course is finished.
Infrastructure: There are plenty of facilities available in the college for different courses, with the most common facility being the college library and its vast section of books, useful for everyone. The classrooms are well-maintained, although there is no WiFi available. The hostels are a little worn off in terms of their interior, but they are spacious enough for students to reside and complete the course in the college. The college lacks sports facilities as there's only one ground in the middle with no available space for people to play, except for one sport, which is volleyball. There's a proper canteen, spacious enough for students to fit in at a large level. But there are no facilities offered for medical emergencies.
Faculty: The teaching faculty is excellent in their job, very helpful and rarely disappointing the expectations of a student. The course curriculum, although being vast yet relevant for the students while I can't really promise it to be making a student industry ready. The exams aren't much difficult as it is based off on knowledge discussed and shared already in the classrooms. There is a high pass percentage with students less than 10% actually failing in the courses.
Other: I chose this course as of now I'm studying LLB, and B.A. was helpful enough for the beginning. BA being relatively quite an easier course, would help students who are preparing for civil exams as it puts less stress on a student's mind. There's nothing much I'd like to improve in this course. There are events surrounding the college every year which starts with the general freshman socials and freshman socials for different departments along with foundation day and competitions are also held time to time to support student's extra curricular activities. This varies from drama competitions to music and dance and other varieties of competitions. There are also scholarship exams held once or twice in a year.

My experience with my college .
Placements: The students with good percentage were placed in this course. Students with 75% or above are used to getting internships. Currently, there are no companies recruiting for this course. Our college doesn't provide any kind of package; it is a government-aided college .
Infrastructure: The library is good and comfortable but it's small for such a big college. The infrastructure was also good; it was quite peaceful. Classrooms were big for students. The hostel were also good but the food quality was not very nice. And the canteen was too small.
Faculty: Yes, the teachers were qualified and knowledgeable and were also helpful to us in teaching us the course. The course was not exactly curriculum-relevant; it does not make students industry-ready. The semester exams are not very tough not or easy, but the pass percentage maybe 50%.
Other: I chose this course because I was interested in learning about English literature. If I were to wish something better about the course was to reduce the syllabus, it would be more like learning for an exam than life.

Campus life is good and the education is excellent.
Placements: Around 45 percent of the students are placed in the education course at B Borooah College. The average package offered is 5-6LPA. There are many top recruiting companies for B.A. in education and almost 100% students get internships for better future and placements.
Infrastructure: The facilities are good but the infrastructure is poor. There is no Wi-Fi available in the campus. There is no girls hostel but there is a girls PG near the college. The hostel is good but the quality of the food available in the canteen is average. We have sports and games like volleyball, cricket, tennis, carrom along with a gym.
Faculty: The teachers are very qualified and helpful towards the students. They are very strict regarding the attendance and the assignments given to us. Their teaching quality is very good and professional. The semester exams are difficult depending upon the course you take, but they conduct sessional exams before the semester exams so that you can prepare in advance. The passing percentage is 65% and above.
Other: I opted for this course because B.A. in education is very good at B Borooah College. The best thing about this course is that it provides a better understanding of the subject. I took this course because I wanted to become a professor in the future. Varieties of events are held every year in the college like cultural, freshers, singing competitions, etc.

It is a good college for undergraduate courses.
Placements: Around 45% of students got placed in our course. There are no high salary packages as it is an undergraduate college. Students have to opt for higher studies to get jobs.
Infrastructure: Our college provides facilities like a library, a separate common room for boys and girls, washrooms, a water facility, a computer lab, and smart classrooms. Students can play different kinds of sports in the college field. There is a parking facility for students and teachers.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful and knowledgeable. They encourage students to attend classes regularly to get ready for the industry. The difficulty level of exams depends on the course. There are around 6 teachers and 25 students in our department.
Other: I chose this course because of my passion for it. Our college organises fresher parties every week. Our college has a very good atmosphere.
