Q:   Is IIM Bangalore as good as IIM Ahmedabad?

A:

IIM Ahmedabad is viewed as being superior to the one in Bengaluru, which is something distinctive that clearly stands out in many of these debates. And given how much the alumni network and brand value matter, IIM Ahmedabad should be the school of choice since it will provide you with more long-term advantages. This single point leads to the recommendation to select option A.

However, I really doubt that it should be given much weight in comparison or that this particular moment should stand alone as a turning point. Evidently, Ahmedabad was founded prior to Bangalore, and Bangalore began to prioritize privates after the mid-80s. Even so, it may give the more established Iims a tough fight. Currently, Ahmedabad continues to spend a colossal amount of money on branding and marketing. Following Ahmedabad, although considerably behind it, is IIM Bangalore. In comparison to IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta could be thought of as insignificant. The facebook page for IIM Ahmedabad, which has a large number of likes and engages in a lot of online advertising, is a good example of this. Consequently, it is able to preserve that impression. Also intriguingly, Ahmedabad is ranked higher than Bangalore in terms of academic and employer perception in the QS rankings for the MIM category (where the flagship PGP in Management is taken into account). However, because to Bangalore's superior scores in all other categories, Bangalore outranks Ahmedabad in the overall rankings.

On Fees and Eligibility

Q:   Can an average student get into an IIM?

A:

The answer to this question of whether an average student can get into IIM can be both yes and no depending on the definition of an average student.

  • Based on Academics (Class 10/ Class 12/ Graduation): While a student with average scores in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation with a good CAT score certainly has good chances of getting a call from IIM-A, chances are less for someone with an average CAT score.
  • Based on student category (General or Reserved): While it is tough for a General category average student to grab a seat at IIM due to high score requirements, a reserved category student can get admission being at average scores as well.
  • Based on past work experience, diversity and other factors: Gender and academic diversity is also a factor on which students are shortlisted at IIM. IIMs judge the past academic category based on the degree obtained by the students before MBA and then a weightage is allotted based on that. For Engineers, the percentage for scoring the highest marks is higher as compared with other streams
  • Performance in selection rounds: Once you make it to the final selection rounds, i.e., AWT/PI process, it can be considered a fresh start. At this stage, students can forget their past average-ness but definitely require good grasp over the past subjects as academics-related questions are asked in the interview.

Based on the above factors, it can be considered that while getting into top Management institutes, such as IIM is extremely tough, the past performance, CAT performance, student category and a lot of factors can be the reasons for a student to receive that final call.

Q:   Is it hard to get a seat in IIM Bangalore?

A:

Yes, securing a seat in IIM Bangalore is highly challenging due to its prestigious status and rigorous admission criteria. IIM Bangalore is among the top management institutes in India, attracting a large number of exceptionally qualified candidates. The institute typically considers various factors, including academic performance, work experience, and performance in exams like CAT which is close to 99 percentile. With a limited number of seats and intense competition, aspiring candidates need outstanding academic records, substantial work experience, and exceptional CAT scores. The selection process also involves a rigorous interview and group discussion round. Thus, gaining admission to IIM Bangalore demands not only academic excellence but also a well-rounded profile and significant dedication to the preparation process.

A:

Other students with severe financial difficulties arising from sudden unforeseen circumstances are also considered. The Financial Aid Committee undertakes a two-step process for deciding the number of awardees and the quantum of aid. In the first stage, the students are given a financial status score based on four criteria: Annual Gross Household Income (including income of the student if employed before joining IIMB and outstanding loans if any, provided they were not taken for conspicuous consumption), household savings, real estate assets, and other assets. Based on this score, some of the students were called for personal interaction with a faculty panel. Q:   What makes CAT tougher than other MBA entrance exams?

A:

Common Admission Test or CAT is a national-level management aptitude test conducted by IIM for admission to MBA. Each year, over 2.3 Lacs candidates take the CAT exam, which is accepted by the IIMs and top MBA colleges in India. It is important to apply strict selection criteria to identify the top candidates among them. That's why, the CAT exam is tougher than other MBA entrance exams. Even though the syllabus of CAT is the same as that of other MBA entrance exams, the question paper set by the IIM faculty always has tough questions. Moreover, CAT has a sectional time limit for each section which is not there in any other exam except XAT.

Thumbs Up IconUpvote Thumbs Down Icon

Q:   Does IIM Bangalore consider 12th marks?

A:

No matter how much a student secures in Class 12, IIM Bangalore, while shortlisting candidates for MBA follows a normalization process and gives weightage to all exam scores, i.e., Class 10, Class 12 or graduation. The process of normalisation is explained below:

  1. For IIM Bangalore PGP admission 2025, a shortlist will be prepared comprising the names of candidates who have secured a pre-determined minimum score on all sections of CAT 2024 exam.
  2. All the subsequent processing, standardization and selection are limited to candidates selected to the first short list alone. Therefore, the CAT score alone is used as the basis for arriving at the first short list
  3. For all candidates in the first shortlist, a candidate’s percentage scores in the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams are adjusted by dividing each such score by the 90th percentile score obtained in that board. For this purpose, the database of Class 10 and Class 12 scores of all CAT applicants of the past two years is used for identifying the 90th percentile score for each Class 10 and Class 12 scores board.
  4. The weightage allocated to each selection parameter is as follows:
