IIT Jammu admission is a multi-step process. Starting with the application, students need to go through the course-specific entrance exam followed by other selection rounds (if applicable). After the selection rounds are over, students are required to go through the exam-specific counselling process for final seat allotment. Check below the steps to get a seat in IIT Jammu:
Step 1: IIT Jammu Application Process 2026
Students seeking admission in IIT Jammu must submit the online application form for course-specific entrance exam or college depending on the course they wish to get into.
- BTech and BS aspirants must fill out the application form for JEE (Main) through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). Aspirants also need to fill out the form on the official website of IIT Jammu for BS. Aspirants need to pay INR 3,000 for BS (INR 1,500 for SC/ ST/ PwD).
- MTech candidates are required to register for GATE through the official website of the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) (appsgate.iitd.ac.in). Aspirants also need to apply on the institute's website after COAP. Candidates need to pay INR 300 (INR 200 for SC/ ST/ PwD).
- Aspirants need to apply for IIT JAM for MSc programme.
- Students are required to apply via the official website of IIT Jammu for PhD programmes. The application fees is INR 300 (INR 200 for SC/ ST/ PwD).
Step 2: Selection
Aspirants need to have JEE Advanced scores for BS/ BTech and GATE scores for MTech. Admission to MSc programme is based on IIT JAM scores of the candidates. The selection for PhD is based on CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR scores. Aspirants may also have to appear for written test/ interview for MTech.
Step 3: Cutoff
Candidates must score equal or above IIT Jammu cutoff in the accepted entrance exam for admission. After the selection rounds are completed, candidates need to go through the course-wise counselling process for final seat allotment.
Step 4: Counselling & Seat Allotment
BTech applicants are allotted seat via JoSAA Counselling. MTech aspirants have to participate in COAP Counselling for admission. Candidates have to participate in IIT JAM Counselling for a seat in MSc. For all other courses, candidates have to participate in institute-level admission proces. Shortlisted candidates need to report at the campus for document verification. Aspirants also need to pay the IIT Jammu fees to confirm their seat.
IIT Jammu Fees 2026: Affordability & ROI
IIT Jammu fees are inclusive of multiple components, namely tuition fees, security deposit, hostel fees, mess fees, and more. Some of the components are chargeable as one-time in the total course fee. Apart from this, the seat allotment at IITs is carried out as per the JoSAA seat matrix. IIT Jammu offers a two-year MTech programme at the PG level. The course is divided into four semesters. No, students seeking admission to IIT Jammu for MTech are required to have a valid score in the GATE exam. Other than this, the institute also conducts a written test and interview for further selection as per the official brochure.
