On Rankings

Q:   Can I get admission to IIT Madras with a low JEE rank?

A:
Admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is highly competitive and the admission process is based on the candidate's JEE Advanced rank. However, admission to IIT Madras or any other IIT with a low JEE rank is unlikely, as the cutoff for admission is generally very high. That being said, it's important to remember that JEE rank is not the only factor that IITs consider during the admission process. Other factors such as academic performance, extracurricular activities, and achievements in related fields may also be taken into account. Additionally, some IITs offer other admission channels like the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme, which allows foreign nationals to apply for admission to IITs based on their SAT scores. It's always best to check the official IIT Madras website for the most up-to-date information on their admission process, eligibility criteria, and other requirements.

Lucky to join here. Best environment to study with experience life.
Placements: This course is good, offering opportunities to shift to software roles as well as core fields. The average package offered is 10 LPA. Nearly 75% of students are placed, although the percentage might be higher. Maintaining a good CGPA ensures better placement opportunities.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi quality is good. The hostel provides adequate facilities with proper water supply and good food. The library has more than enough books to enhance knowledge. Labs are well-equipped, and students are provided with good sports facilities and encouragement to participate.
Faculty: Teachers are very good and supportive, encouraging students to study and explore opportunities. The course curriculum is relevant and helps students understand both the course and potential opportunities. The pass percentage varies depending on the difficulty of the paper and the professor's assessment.
Other: This is the best course in IITM. The flexibility to shift to software roles is a significant advantage. Events are organized regularly to encourage socializing among students. The campus is green, clean, and peaceful, offering a conducive environment for study. Students have the freedom to move out of campus and play at any time, with good sports equipment available.

Best college both in research and opportunities. Well, best for a startup environment too.
Placements: 70-80% get placed, and others go for higher studies. A few opt for a dual degree in data science, which also usually gets placed. This year the highest was 66 LPA, the lowest was around 14 LPA, and the average has risen to 28 LPA. Core recruiters are like Vedanta, Tata Steel, JSW, and Applied Materials, but the above placement states stand for tech companies in which metallurgy students got placed. 20%, as during internship, the company has a choice and not compulsion. This year Finmechanics, Deutsche Bank, Wells Fargo, Jaguar, and a few more metallurgy students got internships.
Infrastructure: It's completely worth it, despite the hostels being not that good, but the other amenities provided by the college are extremely good. The labs and public places have full Wi-Fi, top-notch. You have to take personalized access through credentials, and you are being tracked all the time. Food in the mess is not that good compared to home, obviously.
Faculty: My course is a bit old. Currently, the trend is AI and ML, and our branch is less worth now. In the upcoming generation, metallurgy would rise in renewables POV. Yes, it covers the basics, and you have ample free time to learn coding and enjoy as well. I don't think only B.Tech is sufficient for being industry-ready. Those are pretty tough as a few professors keep open books and try to challenge students. Expect passing around 10-15%.
Other: Ample free time. Professors are helpful, and there is an immense network, so you could get an intern through their help. It's pretty good. Just let it be how it is. Extreme culture both in teaching, sports, and culturals.

Online B.Sc. in Data Science and Applications - Batch of 2027

2Placements3Infrastructure5Faculty1Crowd & Campus Life4Value for Money
Less Interaction with college but very good for those who have passion in data Science field.
Placements: Placement data is not yet released by the college official. Also, in this year, May and June, most of the companies will visit campus, and this year 2024 will be the first time when students are getting placed. We can assume an average of 3 LPA and a maximum package can be of 6-7 LPA.
Infrastructure: I am going to give an average of 3 stars because we have to study online and hostel facilities are not available to us. Although once a year, a fest happens in which all the students can meet and enjoy. Hostel facilities are available for some selected students at the third year or B.Sc. level.
Faculty: About the semester exams, in this course, there is no semester type thing. Instead, we follow the term system (4 months). There are 3 terms in a year, and about the 'term end exams', some of the subjects are very difficult to pass for some of the students. Also, if you can't pass a subject, you have to repeat the entire subject in the next term; there is no system like 'back exams' like other colleges.

The department of mathematics is truly amazing.
Placements: In our batch, 51 students got placed and 2 of them secured seats through spot admission. The average salary package offered ranges from 8 LPA - 10 LPA and the lowest salary package offered is 5 LPA. In our course, we can mostly apply for ed-tech companies. We also have the option for research internships, while other internships depend entirely on students, requiring dedicated effort. Top roles include data analyst, computing, and PhD scholar.
Infrastructure: We have access to everything available like medical facilities, travel services, a 24-hour library, a stadium, and a gym. Our college also provides department classrooms, free internet and Wi-Fibooks, airfilling for cycles, indoor games, and outdoor games. We also have mess, canteen, and restaurants.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, and most are involved in research. It is relevant and provides a strong research background. Exams are not too difficult but not very easy either and there are no direct questions. Pass percentage depends on class performance and marking scheme is relative.

NIRF 1 for a reason.
Placements: Nearly 70% of the students are placed. The highest package was 1.31 CpA. The average package offered is nearly 20 LPA. Bajaj Electronics, Samsung are some of the top recruiting companies. There is no actual data on how many students get internships, as mostly every student does internships after some time in their college period. Electrical design engineer, power systems engineer are the top roles offered.
Infrastructure: For the course depth, we have ESB, which has one of the best infrastructures overall and a really good studying atmosphere. We have ESB-2, which is better than ESB. The Wi-Fi speed is really high and good overall. The classrooms are neat and well-equipped to contain 80-100 students at a time. The institute library has every book a student needs.
Faculty: Yes, the teachers are really helpful. They are qualified and very knowledgeable. They are mostly good at teaching, but some are really bad. The course curriculum is really flexible and teaches the student what they need to know about their subject. After that, it's all electives and stuff to learn and thrive. The semester exams are really easy if you study properly (not too much to stress about). Nothing like JEE. The pass percentage is relatively high.
Other: I wanted to do electrical engineering from my 10th. I don't know why my mind thought of it, but I just went with it. The best thing about it is that we are not exactly doing the typical electrical engineering, but a lot more than that. I feel like it's fine as it is. I don't know much about the course yet to fully give tips to improve this stuff. There is no lack of events; something will be happening as long as you are in the institute. Connectivity is a little hard for introverts like me, but overall, it's a huge campus, which makes it even more difficult, even for non-introverts.

Online degree at IIT Madras.
Placements: The placement being provided by the online degree team is not what you will expect from IIT madras. The placement are equivalent to any tier 3 engineering college. The placements clearly define that the companies do not treat the online degree as usual IIT Madras degree.
Infrastructure: Since it is an online degree the infrastructure of hostel doesn't make any sense in this case. Apart from that the courses infrastructure if talking about the online infrastructure of the team, then it is quite good but is somewhat similar to the internet infra in our country, poor sometimes.
Faculty: The teachers are not only limited to the IIT Madras as well as the teachers are form other well known IIT also. All the teachers are highly qualified teachers as expected from IIT. Some of the teachers explain the concept smoothly whereas some use the old ways of teaching but they don't lag behind in knowledge.
