Formerly known as DOEACC Society, Shillong Centre, National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, (NIELIT Shillong) was established in 2009. This institute has a large campus area of 10 acre provided by State Government at Mawdiangdiang, currently, this institute sports a state-of-the-art training facility that envelopes computer labs, library and wi-fi enabled classrooms. The centre also provides customised short-term training courses in IT to Officials of Central/State Government.

NIELIT Shillong Admission Process
NIELIT Shillong welcomes admission applications throughout the year for short-term courses whereas for long-term courses, admission is open twice in a year (i.e. January & July). Admissions at this institute are merit-based considering the previous qualifying degree/exam. Students seeking admission in these programmes can apply online by visiting the student portal of NIELIT (https://student.nielit.gov.in/). The application process is elaborated step-wise below:
- Candidates have to click on 'new user' tab to create an account by entering email id and contact number
- Next, they need to upload photograph along with scanned copies of signature and left-hand thumb impression
- Also they are required to provide their personal information along with corresponding address details
- Last step requires them to pay an application fee of Rs 500 for submitting the request on the portal

NIELIT Shillong Scholarships
The centre offers the provision of fee exemption for all SC/ST candidates. Additionally, the fee structure set for General Candidates is also amongst the lowest nation-wide. The institute provides Protsahan Puraskar Scheme to all the Physically Handicapped, SC/ST and Female Students taking admission in NIELIT O/A/B/C level courses. In order to qualify for the scholarship benefit, the students have to clear the papers in the first attempt. Also, the family income of such students should not exceed Rs 1 LPA.
