M.Sc. in Chemistry - Batch of 2024

Scottish through the eyes of someone real!
Placements: There were 38 students in our course at the end of semester. Although there were much more at the beginning. The highest package offered in our course was 280000, the lowest was 36000 and average 60000. All per annum. Sorry to say but even though the companies offered to us were pretty lame, none were recruited ever. No student got any internship ever. The one and only role offered to us in our course was a chemist.
Infrastructure: There was wifi but no student could access it. It was only for the faculties. Same is for the computers. The labs were pretty old. It was all show-off. The chemicals were too old, the instruments were broken, fridge not working. Classrooms had air conditioners but only for show. Turning the AC on used to make the rooms hotter than outside. The library was huge but none of the important books were there. All an all, it was all a bid Charade. The food quality was worst everywhere. Like in the mess, canteen everywhere. They were pretty bland and sort of too runny. The medical facilities only had Dettol and cotton. No bandage or any burning cream or whatever. There was no place for any sports or game. Only the annual sports.
Faculty: Only two of the faculty members were truly helpful and qualified to be a professor. But others knew nothing and very unhelpful. Yes the course curriculum indeed is relevant. This is perfect for industry training. The semester exams in this college is pretty difficult. The pass percentage is very weak like only 7%.
Other: I chose this course to be industry ready. If you complete the course and then start looking for jobs in the industry, there's a good chance you'll get them. I wish that there was instrumental knowledge practices was included too. Like knowing the instruments we're using. Knowing all the hardwares and all. So if one is damaged there's no need to call the technician. There was no fest or campus crowd or connectivity being a missionary college and all. But the Christmas was celebrated grandly. There was a scholarship opportunity for the poor students. But there was no extra curricular activities.

A good college for academics but lacks exposure.
Placements: Scottish Church College has an active placement cell that hosts a variety of seminars, talks and other workshops regarding placements of students in their respective field. In 2018, HUL was invited to give a talk for the chemistry students at the college. The cell is in continuous contact with students. However, not many students get placed immediately due to lack of exposure. Internships are not provided by the cell. Students have to apply for it on their own.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi facility is available. Respective labs are available for different science branches. Both A/C and non-A/C classrooms are available. A college library and departmental libraries are provided. A well-maintained canteen is available that provides hygienic food. Hostels for girls are very less. Labs are currently under construction.
Faculty: The teachers are very good, friendly and cooperative. Both digital and whiteboards are used in the classroom to teach. But, the lack of industry exposure is an issue. Though some of the faculty are guest lecturers, they are very well qualified and knowledgeable.
Other: Caledonia is the annual fest organised with great pomp and show. The college also boasts of being at par in extracurricular activities. Scholarship facilities are available for students with low family income.

M.Sc. in Botany - Batch of 2023

A solid foundation with room for growth.
Placements: The program offers a decent placement record, with around 60-70% of students securing jobs in government research organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and environmental consultancies. The highest package offered was around 6 LPA, while the average was 4.5 LPA. Around 70% of students secured internships in organizations like the Botanical Survey of India and the National Botanical Research Institute.
Infrastructure: The college provides adequate facilities for the Botany department, including well-equipped labs, a decent library, and reliable Wi-Fi. While the classrooms could use some modernization, they are functional. The hostel facilities are clean and comfortable, with a variety of food options in the mess and canteen. Medical facilities are basic but sufficient, and the college offers sports and games activities.
Faculty: The teachers in the Botany department are generally helpful and knowledgeable. While some may have a stronger teaching style than others, most are qualified and dedicated. The curriculum is relevant and prepares students for the industry. However, the semester exams can be challenging, with a pass percentage typically around 70-80%.

I like this college, and I enjoyed my whole college life.
Placements: Our college does not hold rigorous placement processes. There are some good companies which visit the campus in the last term of the college. They offer mostly BPO jobs, and it is mostly a walk-in application process. I got the job from the placement in a good and reputed company.
Infrastructure: There are some awesome facilities in our college. Departments are too good, and they are all modern. The laboratory is very good. There are 6 hostels in our college in which 4 are for boys, and 2 are for girls. The hostel fee is very low, and they are all ragging-free hostels. The infrastructure of the hostel is very good.
Faculty: Teachers are very good, helpful, qualified and extremely knowledgeable. Their teaching methods are unique and easily understandable. The course is very good and helpful in higher studies in a prestigious institution. I suggest others to join this college.
Other: I have chosen this course because I like this course. It is very easy for me, and the teachers made it very easy to understand the course.
