{Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

Here's what students and alumni have to say:

* Infrastructure: The college has a mix of old and new buildings, with some air-conditioned classrooms and a well-maintained library. The campus is relatively small, but well-managed.
* Teaching Quality: Faculty members are highly qualified and knowledgeable, with most having PhDs from reputed institutes. They're helpful and willing to assist students beyond the classroom.
* Curriculum: While the curriculum is relevant, it may not entirely prepare students for industry-specific skills. However, students can expect to gain a solid foundation in their respective fields.
* Placements: Placements vary across departments, with some students opting for higher studies instead of taking up employment directly after graduation. Reputed companies like TCS, ICICI, and Amazon have visited the college for recruitment purposes.
+ Average salary package offered: INR2 LPA
+ Around 25% of students get placed annually
* Campus Life: The campus is generally quiet and conducive to studying, with a range of extracurricular activities and events organized throughout the year.

However, students must be prepared to adapt to the college's traditional teaching methods and take initiative to upskill themselves for industry requirements.

Q:   How effective is the placement cell for B.Sc. courses at Scottish Church College?

A:
{Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

Effectiveness of the Placement Cell for B.Sc. Courses at Scottish Church College

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's a summary of the effectiveness of the placement cell for B.Sc. courses at Scottish Church College:

* Limited involvement: The placement cell is not very active, and many students reported not seeing the placement counselors during their stay in the college.
* Few placements: Although some reputed companies like TCS, ICICI, and Amazon have visited the college, the percentage of students getting placed is relatively low. Around 25% of students got placed from the total number of students who attended the placement drives.
* Average salary package: The average salary package offered is around 2 LPA, with the highest package being around 3 LPA.
* Limited job opportunities: The placement cell did not provide many job opportunities, leading many students to pursue higher studies or prepare for government job exams.
* No internships: The college does not provide internships, although some students managed to secure internships through online platforms.

In conclusion, while the placement cell at Scottish Church College exists, it seems to be understaffed and ineffective in providing adequate job opportunities for B.Sc. students. The majority of students opt for higher studies or government job exams instead.

A great curriculum and amicable ambience.
Placements: When it comes to placement, the college does not have a particular placement cell (at least that was how it was during our time), but almost everyone after graduation had things planned out: some went for higher studies, some for jobs and some went for other curriculum, such as an MBA.
Infrastructure: The classrooms and library were well-equipped with everything we required. We also had an in-department library, which enabled us to issue books whenever we needed them. The canteen food is also decent and one can purchase it at a very subsidized rate.
Faculty: The professors were knowledgeable and provided us with learning resources often. During the pandemic, we received a lot of assistance from our teachers and they are still very approachable when it comes to seeking references for jobs or higher studies. The semester exams can get a little tough since during undergrads, one starts exploring college life so it gets a little overwhelming initially.

Review of Scottish Church College.
Placements: About 30% of the students were placed. The highest salary package was 4 LPA, the lowest was 2 LPA, and the average was 3 LPA. The top recruiting companies are Amazon, Wipro, and Infosys. About 10% to 20% of students got placements at Amazon and Wipro as software development engineers and web developers.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi, labs, and classrooms with air conditioners and projectors are available. The library has almost 100,000 books. A water cooler, a geyser, and a water purifier are available in the hostel. The food quality is good with non-vegetarians five times a week. Annual sports are held.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful and have an M.Sc. or Ph.D. The teaching quality is good, with understandable lectures. Understandable notes are provided. The curriculum makes students industry-ready. Semester exams are medium-level. The pass percentage is 35%.
Other: I chose the course because I had a keen interest in it. I want to join the IT sector. Scholarships, like free studentships, are provided by the college. Tech fests are organised in the months of February or October. A lot of co-curricular activities are held around the year.

I am absolutely satisfied with our college faculty, labs, classrooms, fees, infrastructure, etc.
Placements: The college is too good. The professor helps to attend all types of internships. In the B.Sc.course, more than 2.5 LPA is the highest salary package but many of the students don't take the job opportunity because the students deserve better. Otherwise, all students are eligible for job.
Infrastructure: The college hostel is very good. The wardens are very careful about the health of students. Food delivery is available thrice a day. Freedom is given. There is the ideal situation to study well. Wi-Fi is available there. Classrooms are outstanding and we have top lab faculty members under Calcutta University.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are highly qualified. They try the hardest as their ability to make a student exam ready. The HoD of our department is very helpful. Other teachers also wrote books. The course is totally curriculum related. It helps the students exam ready.
Other: I love Chemistry very much so I chose it.

It is one of the finest colleges under Calcutta University.
Placements: This is not a placement-oriented course. Some of the students applied for government jobs or other jobs after doing B.Sc. Physics, but actually there is no role for physics in these jobs. Maximum students selected M.Sc.  or integrated Ph.D. for their future career options.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is very good. Classrooms and libraries are good. There are two types of library facilities. You can collect books from the central library or from department libraries for books related to special topics. But the college campus is too small to enjoy campus life to its fullest.
Faculty: Faculty members are good. Teachers have good qualifications and research projects. They are helpful and serious about their course structure and completing the syllabus. They sometimes offer research opportunities to passionate students.

It is one of the best colleges in Kolkata.
Placements: The placements are average. Often various companies come here. Many students go for IITs and NITs to pursue M.Sc. Our college also offers M.Sc. Students also go for PhDs in reputed institutions.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is one of the best. The college atmosphere and the hostel facilities are very good. The course fee is reasonable. The college infrastructure is well maintained. Classrooms are well decorated and air-conditioned.
Faculty: The faculty members are good and take care of all students. The mentor-mentee programme is well followed here. The teaching quality is excellent. The teachers take regular classes and monitor students' performance.
Other: The campus life here is really enjoyable. The atmosphere is clean and calm. You can have good memories with your friends.

It has good atmosphere, infrastructure and campus life, great faculty, and average placements.
Placements: Those who pursue B.Sc. courses do not apply for placements. In our B.Sc. computer science department, we have a placement cell, but not many of them apply for it. Most of them study either MCA or M.Sc. Some even study for government exams. Even for those who applied, the percentage of students getting placed is very less. The average package offered is between 1.5-2 Lacs per annum. The highest package is around 3 Lacs per annum. The top recruiting companies are TCS, ICICI Bank, Cognizant and Amazon. Many small companies also came here. Most of the roles offered by the companies are assistant and associate. Therefore, the salary is much less than a B.Tech graduate. Our college does not produce internships, but many of us, including me, got internships on online platforms. Even though the campus placements are not good, but many students got off-campus good jobs by learning different skills on their own.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure in our college is very good. We have Wi-Fi enabled classrooms and air-conditioned rooms. Being one of the oldest institutions of West Bengal, it has a very good library with lots of books and study materials. I do not stay in the hostel. But as far as I heard from my friends and seniors, the hostel facilities are decent, but the mess food is very bad. Even the food in our college canteen is very costly and also not up to the mark. Most of us eat outside as there are many shops for different food items outside the college. Our college has a big sports ground where different games are practised, and also annual sports are arranged every year during the winter.
Faculty: The best thing I like about my department is the teachers. Almost all of them are helpful and very kind. Especially our HOD (Head of the Department) sir is very helpful and knowledgeable and very interactive. The teaching quality is great. Even during the pandemic, our teachers taught us regularly on the online platforms and even showed us the programs by doing themselves by sharing the screen. Semester exams conducted by CU (Calcutta University) are not very easy. It is rather quite difficult in some papers. But if one follows the classes and studies systematically, one can surely get decent marks. The pass percentage is 40% for all the courses in CU.
Other: I chose this course because of my passion for computer science and technology. The best part of my course is that some of the faculty members are really helpful and very much inspiring. Apart from that, the new CBCS curriculum makes the course much more student-friendly and also more things other than only theory which was there in the old 1+1+1 system. The coding part could be more complex so that the students can prepare more properly for placements and hackathons.
