The vital eligibility criteria for the diploma course are:
- Candidates must have completed their 12th grade in any subject or graduation or postgraduate degree from a recognised institution.
- If a student meets the minimal criteria of 50% weighted marks, he or she is qualified for admission to the D.Ed. programme.
- While the core of the subject list is maintained in most colleges across the country, such as Education in Emerging Indian Society, Educational Psychology, Secondary Education: Issues and Problems, Information and Communication Technology, and Teaching Methods, the curricula are the same everywhere although they may differ slightly.
Scope in India
Candidates who finish the D.Ed. programmes are qualified to teach elementary school. Government schools, private schools, private tuition centres, daycare centres, and other primary education institutions may hire such teachers. After D.Ed., one can choose a bachelor's degree, i.e., B. A, B.Sc., B. Com, B.Ed., etc., to aim for higher-level career options. The candidates can also go for a Master’s in Education, after which they can apply as a teacher at a higher education level or as a high school principal. Candidates who want to pursue their career as a researcher or if they want to write a thesis on their area of expertise can also opt for a higher degree in M.Phil. Further, they can opt for a Doctorate in Philosophy. Afterwards, they can pursue a career as a professor in reputed institutes or/and become a researcher in the preferred subject.
General examination pattern: In general, practical exercises, assignments, short projects, mid-year assessments, and year-end examinations are used to assess students.
