The Diploma in Elementary Education (D.EL.Ed.) is a programme to enhance the teaching skills and competency of inexperienced primary school teachers in India. It is delivered by the Academic Department of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) as per the direction of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). The training programme has been developed in collaboration with other agencies that work actively in the education field. The D.EL.Ed. programme tenure is of two years and is meant for untrained teachers who are currently employed. It is conducted via classroom training or Open Distance Learning (ODL).

Syllabus - Important Facts about D.EL.Ed.

D.EL.Ed. is a four-semester course designed for teachers teaching in primary and upper-primary classes. You can opt for classroom training or distance learning at your convenience.

Scope in India: As D.EL.Ed. is a nationally-acclaimed training programme, it has huge scope in schools all over India. As a teacher who has completed the D.EL.Ed. programme, you can ask for higher remuneration and work in premier schools without any issues.

D.EL.Ed. Syllabus: The syllabus consists of core subjects and elective courses. The core subjects included in the curriculum are given below:

Other stages of D.EL.Ed. : After completion of the core subjects and elective courses, you are required to complete an internship and choose a project. After completion of the project, a viva is conducted to determine how well the teachers have grasped the syllabus.

Entrance exam criterion: States conduct entrance exams for enrolling the best teachers in the D.EL.Ed. course. Any candidate who has completed their 10+2 education with a minimum of 50% marks can apply for these entrance tests.
