Introduction to Bachelor of Elementary Education
Bachelor of Elementary Education is a four-year integrated professional degree program majoring in elementary teacher education. As of 2011, B.El.Ed is a full-time graduate course and not a distance program.
The first three years of this course combine practical and theory courses. The last year covers the direct experience of school functioning, teaching practice, and reflection. The focus points of this course are the study of subject knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, human development, and communication skills. This course is popular among students since it offers them an opportunity to interact and learn from scholars in education, social sciences, linguistics, psychology, biological and natural sciences, mathematics, and languages.
Syllabus - Important facts for Elementary education
- Bachelor in Elementary Education is an 8-semester course with 19 theory courses. The foundation course focuses on child development and learning, specifically on cultivating skills for students to relate as teachers.
- Other courses - The core courses teach students to integrate already learned concepts into a multi-disciplinary perspective, forming the foundation for pedagogy courses.
- Pedagogy courses include the study of pedagogical theory, while the liberal courses offer students the opportunity to specialise in their chosen discipline with academic rigour. The optional course chosen in the last year provided specialised support to the students.
- Practical courses: Practical courses have subjects such as performing and fine arts, crafts, and physical education, school contact program, observing children, self-development workshops, classroom management and material development, school internships, projects, tutorials, and academic enrichment activities.
- Scope in India - el.ed is a very sought-after course in India and popular among students as well. Students with a B.el.ed degree can later pursue early childhood education, counselling studies, teaching, education, and educational research.
- Language of assessment - Hindi or English and 30% internal assessment in theory classes.
- Minimum marks - 40% in theory paper, 45% in internal assessment plus written paper, 50% in all practicals combined, and 50% for each year in aggregate.

Entrance Exams for Bachelor of Elementary Education
There is the only entrance exam conducted by Delhi university at the state and central levels: the DU B.EL.Ed. Every year, it is conducted so students can secure seats in the highly qualified Delhi University. The minimum eligibility requirements for this entrance exam are completion of 10 + 2 examination with passing marks of 50% aggregate. The admission depends on the cut-off requirements.
The exam is conducted online and is computer-based. The duration of the examination is 2 hours. It has 120 multiple choice questions put in the examination.
Syllabus for Distance Program in Bachelor of Elementary Education
The distance program is for students who cannot afford full-time examinations due to certain restrictions. In such cases, they opt for distance programs for bachelor's in elementary education. The syllabus of distance education programs is almost the same as full-time examination courses. The evaluation format is also almost the same as the regular courses: 70% for semester examination and 30% for the internal assessment. Many students opt for distance programs every year.
