Introduction to M.Ed
M.Ed or Master’s in Education is a postgraduate course that involves theory and research on studying methods. It includes various things like instructing and counselling students while staying updated with the newest technologies in education. Candidates usually undertake a Master's in Education to take up the role of a primary, elementary, or secondary school teacher in government and private schools. It also helps them acquire important positions and roles in educational institutes and education departments of state and central governments.
Syllabus - Important facts for M.Ed
Eligibility: Candidates who have completed their B. Ed with a minimum of 50% or 60% marks as demanded by the specific university or college, can apply for the M.Ed course.
Course structure: M.Ed is a 2-year course, and the curriculum is divided across 4 semesters.
Scope of M.Ed: The students who have completed M.Ed can take the position of a teacher at any private or government school.
Upon gaining experience, they can also be promoted to a higher post like headmaster or principal. It also opens the options of becoming a trainer or career counsellor in educational institutes, coaching centres, recruitment offices, etc.
Specialisations in M.Ed: Various specialisations such as counselling, women studies, special education, etc., are offered in this course.
Course Mode: M.Ed is available in regular and distance program mode. The teachers who are already teaching in schools and are facing issues in completing M.Ed due to time constraints can opt for the distance program.
M.Ed Entrance Exam: M.Ed entrance exams are usually computer-based tests that consist of MCQ type of questions. The questions are based on Statistics, English Language, Reasoning Ability, Education Psychology, Hindi, and General Awareness.

Entrance Exams for M.Ed
The candidates have to appear for different M.Ed entrance tests depending upon the college or university they are seeking admission in. Some universities and educational institutes also offer direct admission to the candidates on the basis of their performance in the BEd, BScEd, BAEd, MScEd, or BElEd qualifying exam. The popular entrance exams for M. Ed are discussed below:
1. MEET: Masters of Education Entrance Test is held by Patna University for the candidates seeking admission in the M.Ed course. It is a paper-based test that consists of MCQs. Since it is a state-level exam, the students who clear this exam with good marks can seek admission in any college in the Bihar state.
2. AMU Entrance Exam: AMU Entrance Exam is held by Aligarh Muslim University once every year for providing admission in various PG and UG courses offered by AMU. It is a paper-based test that is held in various cities across the country.
3. BHU PET: Banaras Hindu University PG Entrance Test is held by BHU for the students aspiring to study in the M.Ed and other PG courses offered by the university. It is an online exam that is conducted once every year.
4. DUET: The DUET or Delhi University Entrance Test is held by Delhi University every year for the candidates who wish to secure admission in various PG and UG programs. It is an online exam and enables the students to seek admission to around 12 colleges that are affiliated with DU.
Syllabus for Distance Programme in M.Ed.
The syllabus for the M.Ed distance programs in India is identical to that of regular courses. The advantage of the distance program is that it allows the candidates to complete the curriculum in 2 years but they can stretch it up to 4 years as per their convenience.
The candidates of the general category should have at least 55% to secure admission in the M.Ed distance program whereas the candidates who belong to the reserved categories need at least 50% to be eligible for this program.
