Go through sample questions for CEED Part B and check their solutions. By solving sample questions, candidates can prepare more effectively and holistically, and also develop problem-solving skills. The CEED 2025 exam will be conducted tentatively in the 3rd week of January 2025 (9 am - 12 noon).

CEED Part B Mock Test/Sample Questions with Solutions

CEED is a national-level exam conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to the Master of Design (MDes) and PhD programmes offered by participating institutes. IIT Bombay will conduct the CEED 2025 exam tentatively in the 3rd week of January 2025 (9 am - 12 noon). The exam will have two parts - 1) a computer-based paper, Part A, 2) and an offline-based paper, Part B. Both parts are mandatory. Note that Part B will be evaluated only if the candidate qualifies Part A. To get a good score in the CEED 2025 exam, it is imperative to solve enough sample papers and previous years' CEED question papers. So, here we bring you CEED 2025 sample papers with solutions for Part B. Note that CEED 2025 merit rank will be prepared by giving 75% weightage to Part B; Part A carries 25% weightage.

CEED 2025 Part B Mock Test/Sample Questions with Solutions

Here we bring you the sample questions that you need to practice for the Part B paper. You can also find the solutions for these questions given alongside the questions.

General CEED Exam instructions and marking

Q:   Will IIT Bombay conduct mock tests for CEED 2025?

A:

IIT Bombay may conduct mock tests for the CEED 2025 exam a few weeks before the exam. The mock tests will help the candidate get familiar with the question paper structure and learn how to attempt the paper.

The mock tests dates, if any, will be announced on the CEED 2025 admission portal - ceed.iitb.ac.in.

To take the mock test, the candidate will have to log in to the portal using their log-in credentials. Note that the mock tests may have fewer questions that those asked in the actual exam. 

Q:   Where can I take CEED 2025 mock tests?

A:

The official mock tests for CEED 2025 will be hosted online at ceed.iitb.ac.in. But note that IIT Bombay hasn’t noticed yet whether it will conduct any mock tests or not.

If the mock tests are indeed conducted, they will be held a few days before the actual exam.

To take the mock tests, the candidate will have to go to the official portal and log in. Upon logging in, the mock tests will be displayed on the screen.

Q:   Will CEED 2025 mock tests have the same types of questions as those asked in the exam?

A:

The mock tests will have similar types of questions to those asked in the actual exam. However, the mocks can contain fewer questions.

Note that the propose of the mock tests is to help the candidate get an insights into the question paper structure and learn the navigation and answering process.

The candidate can take the mock tests closer to the exam and give finishing touches to their preparation. Additionally, mocks will help the candidate identify areas that need improvement and work on them.

  • Q 1 and Q 2 are mandatory. Attempt any one question from Q 3 to Q 5.
  • Q 1 and Q 2 carry 25 marks each.
  • Q 3 to Q 5 are of 50 marks (Any one question needs to be attempted).                                 

Q.1 Sketch a sports shoe with laces. Draw only one shoe. You can sketch one you have seen or you can sketch one based on your imagination

Note:

  • Use only pencils
  • Do not use any drawing instruments, such as ruler, compass, set-square or anything else.
  • Do not use any kind of colour

Solution: Pay attention to perspective, light, shade and shadow, quality of lines, as well as scale and proportion in the composition.

CEED Mock Test Question 1- Shiksha

Q.2 Imagine and draw a set of brushes placed in a steel tumbler.

Note:

- Do not use any drawing instruments like a ruler, compass, set-square, etc.

- Do not use any form of colour

- Use only pencils

Solution:

The evaluation criteria for this question is:

  • Abilities in perspective drawing
  • Light and shade and shadow
  • Quality of lines
  • Sense of scale and proportions
  • Sense of composition
CEED Mock Test Question 2- Shiksha

Q.3. Optional (Product design)

Water is a scarce resource in many parts of India. Water is often wasted because people forget to turn off the taps after use, yet for hygiene purpose, continuous flowing taps are needed.

Q:   Do I need to take CEED 2025 mock tests conducted by unofficial sources?

A:

The candidate can take mock tests conducted by unofficial sources like coaching institutes, etc. However, note that for taking these mock tests, you may be asked to pay a certain fee.

Once you pay the fee, you can start taking the mock tests.

Further, the candidate may also take mock tests conduted by other entrance exams. Sample papers are another useful tools to prepared for CEED 2025 exam.

Design a washbasin tap which caters for continuous on mode as well as timed mode of operation. Also, cater for an external hot and cold knob and show its working.

Solution:

Present your design proposal with

  • Distinct design features which address the problem
  • Sketches showing the working of the tap in both the modes
  • Device to control water temperature

Pay close attention to the ease of use, aesthetics of the solution, ease of mass production and the ergonomics of the design.

Q.4 Optional (Animation design)

Sketch a step-by-step storyboard to make a paper aeroplane.

Q.5 Optional (Visual communication)

Divorces are stressful on the kids. Show a simple visual representation of the concept of this stress. You may not use any words or letters in your work.

  • Produce at least 3 distinct concepts of the visual
  • Show the final rendering in the space provided

Solution: Pay close attention to the directness of concept, its applicability to the situation and the simplicity of the representation.

IIT Roorkee doesn't offer PhD in Design course through CEED. It only offers a MDes in Industrial Design.
 
Admission to the M.Des program will be based on CEED 2025 merit rank. The candidate will have to apply directly to the participating college once results are declared.

Part A of the CEED 2025 question paper will have three types of questions:

  • NAT (Numerical Answer Type): 8 questions
  • MSQ (Multiple Select Question): 10 questions
  • MCQ (Multiple Choice Question): 26 questions

IIT Bombay conducts the CEED entrance exam for M.Des and PhD courses.

So, yes, you can take the CEED 2025 exam if you plan to get admission to the PhD program offered by participating colleges.

 The CEED score is valid for a period of one year from the date of declaration of the result. This means you can use CEED 2025 scores for admission in the current academic session only. You can't use for admission in the next year.
