According to the latest reports, Class XII marks will not be a basis for determining JEE ranks required for admissions to engineering undergraduate courses offered by IITs and NITs from 2017.

According to latest reports, the Joint Entrance Examination Apex Board (JAB) has allowed the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST)-Shibpur, IIITs and government technology institutes to scrap the existing 60/40 weightage formula for admissions.

The HRD Ministry, after examining the report of Ashok Misra Committee and considering the public feedback, have made the following changes in JEE 2017 exam pattern:

  • The performance of students in Class 12th Examination will be a crucial parameter for determining the eligibility of the student for the JEE examination.
  • To qualify in JEE Exam, aspirants should have secured at least 75% marks or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th Class Examination conducted by respective Boards. This condition, however, will be relaxed to 65% for SC/ST students.
  • The present system of giving 40% weightage for the 12th Class marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE Main shall be dispensed with.
  • All other JEE Examination systems shall remain unchanged.

In November 2015, the committee had proposed some major changes in the JEE structure. This included setting up a National Testing Service(NAT) to conduct tests for shortlisting approximately four lakh students for the exam.

Will JEE Main & Advanced Stay Next Year?

The main aim of these proposed changes was to reduce the dependency of engineering aspirants on coaching aspirants.

The committee of eminent persons had submitted its report on November 5. Its recommendations were aimed at weaning IIT aspirants away from the dependence on coaching institutes.

This wont help aspirants in any way as the level of paper created by these eminent institutes is so high that one cannot resist to join a coaching centre for its preparation.

It is nearly 70 years since independence and still we are in favour of reservation! God only knows the fate of this country. Is there any other civilized country in this globe where sex or cast based reservations are in practice? None in my knowledge at least.
