[Sponsored Article]
LNMIIT was founded in 2002 as a joint effort between Rajasthan State Government and Lakshmi and Usha Mittal Foundation's philanthropic initiative. With continuing emphasis on rigor and excellence in education and research, the institute was granted Deemed-to-be University status by UGC in 2006 under the De-Novo category. The 100-acre green residential campus is located in a serene atmosphere on the outskirts of India's pink city, Jaipur.
LNMIIT has launched two innovative courses:
Mechatronics Engineering (MTRE) in 2013 and Mechanical Engineering (ME) in 2015, keeping in the view the future industrial automation requirements in the design and manufacturing field.
Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary field of engineering that includes a combination of systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics engineering and telecommunications engineering. The institute currently offers B. Tech programmes in ME and MTRE along with PhD programme in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering.
These courses aim to equip the graduates with the fundamental concepts and techniques of Mechatronics applications, relevant to existing and emerging technological domains. The graduates will become readily employable professionals for industries and research organisations. The graduates will be able to conduct collaborative research focusing in the areas of Computer Aided Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Automation, Robotics etc. Additionally graduates will have communication, leadership skills and an understanding of ethical choices in the engineering profession.
Faculty Profile in ME and MTRE – The Faculty members possess industrial and academic expertise in their field with academic record from reputed IITs and NITs. They are involved in industrial research and consultancy, collaboration with industries for technical support, editorial board of various journals along with membership and relevant activities of various professional societies.
Laboratories in Department: The laboratories are well equipped with advance and traditional equipments to provide hands on experience to students with making familiar to use latest technology. The Texas Instruments (TI), National Instruments (NI) Laboratory and CAD lab., These laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art hardware from Texas Instruments (TI) and National Instruments (NI) which includes various controllers, sensors, actuators and software such as LabVIEW, ANSYS Fluent, Matlab/Simulink, VI-Rail, Solidworks, Autodesk, TRNSYS and MSC Adams. Others laboratories are Mechanical Workshop, Advance welding Shop, Engineering Graphics Lab., Basic Engineering Lab., Material Testing Lab. ,Metallographic lab Kinematics & Dynamics Lab., Thermodynamics and I. C. Engine Lab, Heat Transfer andRAC Lab., Hydraulics Lab. and Project Lab. Institute is in process of setting up Modelling and Simulation, Computer shop.
Industrial Collaboration: The department has industrial collaborations with companies like National Instruments inc. and have future plans to collaborate with JCB, Robert Bosch, Maruti Suzuki, Mathworks etc.
Workshops and Seminars – LNMIIT organises various workshops, seminars, interaction with subject experts and industry professionals throughout the year to enhance student knowledge in latest trends and developments in the field of ME and MTRE.
ASME LNMIIT Student chapter – LNMIIT students are involved in various research and development projects, industrial and academia visits for internship or training. ASME LNMIIT Student chapter started in 2015 and IEEE Student chapter has been functioning for several years. SAE student chapter was initiated in 2016. ASME LNMIIT Student chapter received outstanding start up student section grant of $500 from ASME headquarters at New York, USA. Section chair awarded $1200 for travel grant to attend student leadership training programme for ASME IMECE 2015 Houston Texas (world’s largest mechanical convention).
Career path and industry trends-
The Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering involves the design, manufacture, operation and automation of machines of all types and sizes that involve motion or have moving parts. The mechanical engineering sector includes companies working with metal and plastic processing, as well as machine manufacture. This encompasses agricultural machinery, precision engineering, tool-making, metal fabrication and processing.
The range of work for the mechanical engineer means he or she could be working on anything from the design and manufacture of robots, racing cars, high performance engines, and precision machine tools to working on major power generation plants and production equipment used in the chemical, electronics and food processing industries. Mechanical engineers are also one of the main developers in the new, emerging fields of nanotechnology and biotechnology.
Employment for mechanical engineers is manufacturing units was always a win win situation. As such Industrial jobs cover nearly the whole ball of wax from developing a product to opt for the appropriate materials to pick out the correct technology to assemble the product. Furthermost mechanical engineers in this trade work for aerospace companies, equipment manufacturers, petroleum companies, material processing plants, transportation companies, and utilities. They also work with consulting practices, small firms, universities, and government & administration research labs.
The curriculum based courses in mechanical and mechatronics engineering at the LNMIIT provide a very broad-based technical education. The career is an excellent foundation for graduates who, in time, want to move into core technical, design and research domains or management-oriented positions such as engineering manager, project manager and general manager.
