Do what you love, but wisely: Bahadur Thapa

Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology

I did my schooling from Delhi. I was also preparing for JEE Main simultaneously, which helped me with the entrance exam of IP University (IPUCET). Like most of the people, I was also interested in computers, so I opted for CS as my fifth subject in 11th. During the break after my 12th boards, I did research on various fields of computer branch. Some of them which I liked were cryptography, networking, and web development. From then, I decided to do BTech from CSE branch.

I was pretty confident about getting a good score in JEE Main, so I filled the forms of JEE Main and IPUCET. But unfortunately, I was late for filling the form of Main online counselling, so IP University was my only option. Having a backup saved me.

So, a general advice is- Have backups for college selection, you might not know what would happen next. Getting admission in IPU was easy as compared to IITs and NITs, and I hadn’t even prepared for that exam. All that I had to do was attempt the maximum number of questions which were more straightforward/direct. I secured 4224 rank in IPU exam, and based on that rank, I got admission in Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology (MSIT), Indraprastha University in CSE branch as a general category student. So, that’s the story of my admission. I think it was the right choice as I got what I liked. Plus, the college was near my home, so I got a lot of free time.

Now, I am in the 4th year and have a good experience of the college life. Some tips that I would like to give to new batches are:

  1. College will be very different from school. It will give you so much freedom that you can do anything. I’ve seen many of my friends getting distracted. So choose your actions wisely and remember why you came to college.
  2. During graduation, most people will sharpen their technical skills, but on the other hand, non-technical skills are required too. You must acquire those as they will be required at the time of campus placements. A lot of students lack that. You should have good communication skills, presentation skills, leadership skills, management skills, team spirit, and a sharp brain.

Now, you must be thinking how to acquire all these skills. Well, you can get these by joining societies or clubs that conduct events, seminars, TED Talks, college fests, etc.  In BTech, you will have plenty of spare time which you can utilize in getting these skills.

I focused on building the base in the 1st year. In the 2nd and 3rd year, I dedicated more time to improve my non-technical skills. Dedicating time for different things really helped me.

One thing that really worked for me was I was in touch with people that I wanted to become like. For you, it can be anyone, like the pioneer in your field of choice, a mentor, your idol, or a friend who is always pushing you forward. Luckily, these things have been a part of my graduation life.

Finally, I’d say that my opinion might not be right for everyone as in real life, there is nothing completely right nor wrong; it just depends on your situation or views. It matters what you do in those 4 years of your graduation.

At last, I’d say, “Do what you love, wisely”.

Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology offers better placements than Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology. Some reviews on our site indicate a higher average package and a more relaxed atmosphere at MAIT, while MSIT might have a stronger reputation for overall placement success rate.

Academics is fine but not great. It is the best college for a B.Ed course in GGSIPU.

MSIT's location is comparatively one of the best among the IP colleges. Close proximity to nice and pocket friendly food joints and clubs and malls in Rajouri Area.

The crowd is quite good and well balanced. I've made
