Guru Nanak Dev University offers BTech in four engineering branches. One of the students shares some important stats from the recently concluded placement season at the university along with providing details about the process and tips to ace each stage of the campus placement drive.

I am pursuing B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Guru Nanak Dev University offers only four streams in B.Tech, namely Computer Science, Electronics And Communication, Food Science and Mechanical. Around 325 students got placed in CSE out of a batch of 500 in companies comprising from IT, consultancy and marketing domains. In ECE, 59 were placed out 100 in various IT and electronics companies. Two students were placed in Mechanical out of a batch of 40 students while one student was placed from Food Science. The overall placement percentage for this session is around 55.

Some of the major companies that visited our companies in last two years include:

Company Package Offered Domain
TCS Digital 7 LPA IT
TCS Ninja 3.36 LPA IT
KPMG 5.10 LPA Consultancy
Nagarro 4-5 LPA IT
Sap Labs 25K stipend and MTech degree from BITS Pilani IT
Capgemini 3.85 LPA IT
E&Y 3.7 LPA Consultancy
Infogain 3.6 LPA IT
Amdocs 5 LPA IT
Stylumia 12 LPA IT

The highest package offered was 12 lakh per annum while lowest was 2.5 LPA. The average package offered to students was around 4.15 LPA. Several start-ups also visited our campus during placements.

Placement Process at Guru Nanak Dev University

All the companies conducted two kinds of interview rounds – technical and HR. In the technical round, technical skills and knowledge are evaluated according to the requirements of the company and job profile. To clear this round successfully, aspirants should understand the requirements of a specific role and prepare accordingly. The HR round, on the other hand, is meant to assess the general aptitude and overall persona of a candidate. Be honest, prepare sincerely for placements and you will ace in all the rounds with ease.

Placements are going to be the most hectic period in your entire course duration. During placements, many students realise that they are not as good at the technical part as they thought earlier and they inevitably fall short of time in order to acquire those new skill sets. So, spend more time learning the required skills sets thoroughly before the beginning of the placements. Prepare well for the aptitude test too; attempt online test series on different platforms. Moreover, work on your oral and written communication skills if you want to ace all the interview rounds and make a strong case before the interviewers.
