IES 2024 Cut off (Expected)– Check Category Wise Prelims & Mains Cut Off Marks Here

The Union Public Service Commission conducted the IES 2024 exam on February 18, 2024. Shiksha.com captured the students' reaction after the IES 2024 exam. All the candidates who appeared in the exam mentioned that the Commission asked difficult questions this year. Most of the questions were lengthy and hence more time was required to read and understand the questions. 

The candidates also shared that the IES cutoff 2024 will remain low.

Yes, there is negative marking in the IES prelims exam. The Union Public Service Commission mention the quantum of negative marking in the official notification. The Commission also mentions the total mark of the question paper and the structure of the exam such as how many questions will be asked in the paper.

The Commission also mention the negative marketing as the following:

The penalty for the incorrect answer is one-third of the total marks assigned to the correct answer. The Commission assigns 2 marks for the correct answer. Hence, 0.66 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

The UPSC ESE final result 2024 was declared on November 22, 2024. The Commission selected 206 candidates for the appointment purposes. The Commission conducted the IES 2024 interviews till November 6, 2024.  The UPSC ESE (IES) main exam result 2024 was released on July 31, 2024.

The Union Public Service Commission conducted the IES 2024 exam on February 18, 2024, at the designated exam centres. The IES prelims result was released on March 28, 2024 at upsc.gov.in. The Commission releases the IES result pdf online only. One copy of the result will be posted on the Commission Notice Board at Dholpur House.

The Union Public Service Commission notified 167 vacancies for the IES 2024 exam. The Commission released the IES 2024 notification online on September 26, 2023. The Commission mentioned the number of vacancies in the exam but the Commission did not provide the classification of vacancies as per their engineering stream. 

The Commission is expected to mention the stream-wise vacancies in the official result pdf or in the final result pdf. 

The candidates should note that the IES cutoff means the minimum marks required to get selected in a particular category. The IES 2024 cutoff is the minimum score required to qualify for the Indian Engineering Services exam. The Commission arrange the candidates in the order of their merit list and select the candidates in accordance with the number of vacancies in that particular category.

The cutoff is determined by various factors, including the number of vacancies, the difficulty level of the question paper, and the number of candidates who appeared in the exam.

The Union Public Service Commission conduct the Engineering Service Exam (ESE) every year to recruit candidates for different positions. This exam is popularly called as the IES exam among the candidates because of the name of service, the candidates are assigned to. 

The Commission conduct the IES exam every year in the following four engineering streams:

• Civil Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

The Union Public Service Commission conduct the IES prelims exam in offline mode. The Commission prepares the IES answer key and compare the answers of the candidates with it. With comparing, the Commission calculate the marks of the candidates by awarding 2 marks for each correct question and deducting 0.6 marks for each incorrect answer.

The Commission arrange the candidates in order of their merit in their category. The candidates from other category can be counted in unreserve category if they score equal or better marks than the Unreserved Category candidate. The Commission mention that "The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main/Stage-II Examination will be about six to seven times, the total approximate number of vacancies to be filled in the year through this examination".

The Union Public Service Commission releases the IES cutoff after the declaration of the final result. The Commission do not release the answer key and cutoff with the prelims result. The candidates can download the IES 2024 cutoff in the following manner:

• Go to the official website of UPSC – upsc.gov.in
• Click on the ‘Examination’ tab given at the top
• A drop list will appear, Click on the Cutoff link appearing on the list
• The ESE Cutoff PDF link will appear in the list
• Click on the link and get the ESE cutoff for all the categories and phases

The candidates should understand that the IES cutoff varies every year. There are some factors which determine the IES cutoff. The candidates can see below the factors that influence the IES cutoff. The factors that determine the IES cutoff are

• Number of vacancies,
• Difficulty level of the question paper
• Number of candidates who appeared in the exam

The Union Public Service Commission releases the Tie-Resolution principle in the IES cutoff pdf. The Commission mentions the following in the cutoff pdf: 

Wherever two or more candidates have secured equal aggregate marks in ESE the tie(s) have been resolved in accordance with the principles approved by the Commission, viz.
(i) The candidates with more marks in subject/technical papers plus marks of Personality Test may be ranked higher;
(ii) In case the total marks in the subject/technical papers plus marks of Personality Test are equal, thecandidate who is senior in age may be ranked higher.
