Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the Civil Service (IAS) exam cutoff and answer key after the completion of the exam process to avoid any unnecessary litigation against the answer key and consequently on cutoff. - UPSC IAS prelims cutoff
- UPSC IAS main (written) cutoff
- UPSC IAS final cutoff
The Union Public Service Commission releases the cut off after exam results. UPSC cut off is a useful component for the UPSC preparation because the cut-off presents a clear Insight into the minimum marks required to get selected in the UPSC exam.
UPSC cut off is released for all the categories separately and each category cut-off depends upon the number of vacancies in the category.
Cut Offs of Other UPSC Exams
The UPSC Cut off of various exams are as follows.
UPSC cut-off is arrived at by the interplay of the aforesaid three factors. The standard of UPSC question papers remains almost the same every year. This is the reason that the previous year question papers of UPSC exams are helpful in the UPSC Preparation.
The number of vacancies influences the UPSC cut-off because it can be said that keeping all the other factors equal to the previous year, higher the vacancies will reduce the UPSC cut-off. After all, the UPSC has to take more candidates from the merit list and hence the cutoff mark will be lowered.
The third factor is not so important because the number of candidates appearing in the UPSC exams remains almost similar each year. There could be two conditions when this factor will affect the UPSC cut off, which are as follows.
- The higher number of candidates will compete more fiercely and the UPSC cut off will rise.
- There can be a case when the number of applicants will be less than the vacancies notified by the UPSC. In our country, this is very difficult to happen.
The standard of UPSC question paper and the number of applicants who appear in the exam remains almost equal each year. UPSC also releases its answer key after the exam. So the candidates can check their answers and cut off in hand, they can plan their strategy for next year in a better-informed way.
UPSC conducts various exams and each exam has various stages. Hence, the UPSC cut off is released for each stage of the exam. UPSC cut-off for the medical examination is not released because the candidates need to qualify it and there are no marks attached to it.
