Q:   What is the exam pattern of UPSC?

A:
The Union Public Service Commission's civil service exam pattern is officially divided into two stages called the preliminary and main examination, while in practice it is a three-stage exam. The third is the personality test PI or interview. Union Public Service Commission's Prelims consist of 2 papers, namely, General Studies I and Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). While the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) is qualifying in nature, the marks obtained in the General Studies paper determine your selection for Union Public Service Commission's Mains. The score of the General Studies Paper will be considered for the prelims cutoff. 1/3 of the marks would be deducted for the wrong answer. Exam Pattern for IAS Main Examination: The IAS Mains Exam consists of two types of papers: qualifying and merit ranking. Paper A and Paper B, are Qualifying papers. The marks obtained in papers A and Paper B will not be added to the merit. All the other paper's marks will decide your rank. Hence, the Total Score will be out of 1750 marks. It is mandatory to score at least 25 percent in each paper to be evaluated during the final selection. Students will be required to write the answers on the answer sheets provided by the Union Public Service Commission. No extra sheets will be provided for the exam. I hope this will help you.

Commonly asked questions

Q:   Do questions get repeated in UPSC prelim exam?

A:
Yes, the question often gets repeated in UPSC prelims. I am giving you an example. In prelims 2020, UPSC asked, "Which part of the Constitution of India declares the ideal of a welfare state? " This question was taken from the 2015 paper in which it asked, "The ideal of a 'Welfare State' in the Indian Constitution is enshrined in its. " The answer to both is the same: the directive principles of state policy (DPSP). As you can SEE changing the language or asking in a different way does not change the core question. I am giving you a list of the most frequently asked topics in prelims papers: 1. In history: the Indus Valley Civilization, the Gupta period, Mauryan architecture, the Bhakti movement, Jainism, Buddhism, and the Swadeshi movement; questions related to Gandhi Ji. 2. In geography: Location-based questions, particularly in the Middle East; soil; tropical rainforest; minerals, particularly iron and copper; 3. Environment: Endangered Species, Biodiversity Hotspots related to flora and fauna, 4. In Polity: Constitutional Amendments 42nd and 44th, DPSP, Fundamental Rights and Duties, Parliament, and Committees. 5. Economy: Budget, WTO, Inflation, Reserve Bank of India, World Economic Forum, Economic Survey That is why previous year's papers are considered the best guide to prepare for the Prelims exam.
