On Rankings

Q:   Is JUIT Solan best in Solan?

A:

JUIT Solan is one of the best colleges in Solan for technical education. It has been ranked by various agencies such as NIRF, Outlook, IIRF, THE, and Shiksha based on different criteria such as academic quality, innovation, placement, and infrastructure. Some of the highlights of JUIT Solan are:

  • It has been accredited by NAAC with B+ grade and NBA for its B.Tech programs.
  • It has a beautiful campus spread over 25 acres in the Waknaghat hills, with modern facilities such as auditorium, library, hostels, and sports grounds.
  • It has a strong faculty team with many PhD holders and experienced professionals from the industry.
  • It has a good placement record with top recruiters such as Microsoft, Adobe, BSNL, EY, and Amazon. The highest CTC offered in 2023 was INR 30 LPA.
  • It has a vibrant student life with various cultural and technical events, clubs, and societies.

However, JUIT Solan may not be the best choice for everyone, as it also has some drawbacks such as:

  • It has a high fee structure, which may not be affordable for some students. The tuition fee for B.Tech is INR 1.2 Lacs per semester, and the hostel fee is INR 50,000 per semester.
  • It has a strict attendance policy, which requires students to maintain at least 75% attendance in each subject. Failing to do so may result in detention or fine.
  • It has a remote location, which may limit the exposure and opportunities for students. It is about 60 km away from Shimla, the nearest city, and the public transport is not very frequent or convenient.

Therefore, JUIT Solan may be best in Solan for some students, but not for others.

B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering - Batch of 2026

Jaypee University of Information Technology: The college is only good due to it's location.
Placements: The conversation rate of students here is barely 5%. Many companies came back without taking any students even though around 200 students applied for the job. Many seniors are unplaced and even the pass outs are unplaced. The promotions of 100% placement are totally fake. The average package is about 3.5 LPA.
Infrastructure: The food in the mess hall is terrible. Sometimes we find cooked insects in our food. The facilities aren't that good, and for every small issue we're sent to the hospital from our dispensary because we don't have proper resources to solve the problem. On the plus side, the college does have a few sports facilities, including basketball, badminton, football (only for boys), and cricket (only for boys).
Faculty: The teachers here don't generally care about the well-being of the students. Some teachers are really good, but they leave the college early for better jobs, so we're stuck with the bad ones. When I was a fresher, we were told that it's difficult to fail in this college, but here teachers announce beforehand that they'll bring about 200 supplies in this particular subject.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted to become an engineer and came to JUIT because of the location. The festivals here are really small and not good. The crowd is too local and mixed and not that good for the social life in general. Too many suppliers of drugs nearby the campus.

Jaypee University Of Information Technology.
Placements: More than 50% of students have been placed. Top roles offered were Software Engineer, Sales, Business Development Associate, Frontend Engineer, Graduate Engineer Trainee, System Engineer, and Special Programs were the top roles companies came for at our university.
Infrastructure: The hostel facilities available here are really good. The room availability is single, two, and three occupancy rooms with spacious rooms and clean washrooms. Wi-Fi for each floor works okayish. Coed mess. One girls' hostel and 13 boys' hostels with separate buildings for first year.
Faculty: The faculty at JUIT is really good and knowledgeable. Every one of them helps the students with any doubts or queries. The coding culture is not much here; everyone has to do coding and be an expert in their interests on their own. The semester exams' difficulty is medium.

Average good private college.
Placements: Most of the students are placed in mass recruiting companies like TCS. There are not many high-end companies that come for on-campus placements. Most of the students get their placements on their own (off-campus). The highest package offered is around 45 lacs per annum which was off-campus bagged by the students’ efforts. The average package is around 4-5 lacs.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of this college is quite decent. The labs and the classrooms are average. There are approximately 28 students in one batch. The hostel has all the basic amenities like water and power supply. Girls' hostels have in-time of 9:30 pm. The quality of food is fine, it is hygienic and healthy.
Faculty: The faculty is nice and helpful, they help you outside the classroom as well. Most of CSE faculty is knowledgeable about their course. The curriculum is as that of the other colleges of India which is more of theoretical knowledge than practical use. The difficulty level of the semester exams is average, they are not very difficult to pass.
Other: My course is Computer Science and Engineering, I have chosen this course because I wanted to pursue software engineering. This college is in a secluded area so apart from the basic requirements, for everything you have to go to either Shimla or Solan. But there is something always happening in the campus to keep the students busy.

Empowering Minds: A Comprehensive Review.
Placements: Current batch placement is ongoing, and close to every student will get placed with top recruiting companies like Aspire, Zscaler, Infosys, Accenture, LTMindtree, ION Group. The top package is around 20 Lacs, with the lowest being 3.60 Lacs. Companies like Coderix, PlaySimple, and RT Camps came for internships. Overall, the average placement range is around 5 Lacs.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure for hostel and course is overall very good with 24/7 Wi-Fi, library with reading space, clean drinking water, up-to-date computer and science labs, smart classrooms. Hostel rooms are also good with blowers for winters, and the mess food is really good compared to other universities. There is also a dispensary that is open all the time for medicine, and two doctors are there till 5 PM.
Faculty: Faculty for all the departments are adequate and experienced. The course and curriculum are designed on a GATE basis, and questions in the exam are also of GATE level. There are three exams in a semester: T1, T2, and T3, which are of 15, 25, and 35 marks respectively. The remaining 25 marks are internal marks given by the subject teacher. Faculty here are lenient and helpful.
Other: CSE at JUIT offers overall knowledge, be it the basics of computer sciences or for many events that happen on the JUIT campus, like the annual cultural fest LF, where performers come to perform different activities like singers, bands, etc. A tech fest called Murious is also organized, along with a literary fest called Alfaaz, youth parliament, and a sports fest called Parakaram, where different colleges come to compete.

Amazing location of the university .
Placements: 85–90% of students were placed in my course. The highest package offered was 19.5 LPA on campus and 50 LPA off campus. The lowest was 3.5 LPA, and the average was 8.5 LPA. The top companies that did mass recruitment were LTI Mindtree, Infosys, Wipro, and Cognizant. Roles offered were SDE, developers, sales jobs, etc.
Infrastructure: The facilities like Wi-Fi, labs, classrooms, and libraries are all good. Hostel facilities are also great. The best part is the food. The food tastes amazing. It is difficult to find good food away from home in hostels. Everything is hygienic, and canteen food is also great. Sports and outdoor games are wonderfully organised and set up. Dispensary is available 24/7, and doctors are so calm and nice.
Faculty: Faculty is great to deal with, helpful, cheering, and motivating all the students of their class in each semester. The semester exams happen three times per semester: 1st is of 15 marks, 2nd is of 25 marks, 3rd is of 35 marks, and the rest are internal marks. And the course curriculum is relevant to the course, and they make you industry-ready.
Other: The location of the college is wonderful and so quiet and peaceful.

Not recommended for B.Tech; placement cell is not good.
Placements: Scored 89.2 in 12th, got into CSE. The placements here are not that much good. The lowest package goes around 4.5-5 LPA. The highest this year is 50 LPA, which is also off-campus. Subjects taught are good, and the curriculum is also up to date.
Infrastructure: The labs are Wi-Fi enabled, with the latest PCs which were set up this year only. The classrooms are good too, with whiteboards and classboards. The library has three floors and is highly recommended for studying there. It's a very quiet place and is open up to midnight. The hostel rooms are quite good with a nice view, but there is no place for midnight cravings, although there are coffee and snacks vending machines and the cafeteria is open up to 11 PM.
Faculty: Most of the teachers have left the college, the ones who are here from the beginning. The faculty is not that much good. They have good knowledge, but they don't teach well. The course curriculum is up to date and exams are of moderate level. To pass the exam, 30/100 is required.

Q:   Can I get into JUIT Solan B.Tech with 70% in class 12th?

A:

Admission to the B.Tech course in JUIT Solan is based on merit in the entrance examinations or merit in the qualifying examination. Entrance-based admission to B.Tech depends on the All India Rank of the candidates in JEE Main. Merit-based admission depends on the candidates’ performance in their qualifying examination. For merit-based admission, the university will conduct counseling in the month of July. Candidates shall be informed prior and they will be allowed a choice of a maximum of three programs. The minimum eligibility for B.Tech is 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects. Therefore, it is not clear whether a candidate with 70% in class 12th can get admission to JUIT Solan B.Tech program.

B.Tech is a full-time undergraduate programme of four years with a total of 510 seats. According to the official website of JUIT Solan, admission to B.Tech programme is through two modes:

  1. Valid JEE Main scores and merit basis (marks obtained in 10+2 examination).
