AIIMS Delhi History

AIIMS was founded with an agenda to establish a national medical centre for medical education and research in Southeast Asia.
The proposal received great support and funding from New Zealand, which helped in laying the foundation stone of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1952.
In 1956, AIIMS became an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament.
The dream and design belonged to Jawaharlal Nehru and the execution received a green flag from his Health Minister, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur.

AIIMS is located in Ansari Nagar, New Delhi and it is easily connected by Delhi Metro. The nearest metro station to AIIMS is AIIMS Metro Station which is located on the Yellow Line. The entrance of the AIIMS is on Aurobindo Marg, just outside the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, and Safdarjung Hospital is located west of the station. The distance between AIIMS and AIIMS metro station is 500 meters and it hardly takes 2 minutes to enter the AIIMS from the metro station.
