About the course

Famous bakers share that every course in baking and confectionery ideally teaches candidates how to weigh and measure ingredients. This task is followed by educating them on how to mix, divide as well mould dough followed by informing on how to set the dough so that it rises as per requirement. Baking and Confectionery courses also teach aspirants how to bake different types of breads as well as confectionery products. Once individuals learn all these skills, they are taught how to decorate their final product so that it looks presentable.

These days many popular bakeries conduct classes wherein they teach interested candidates how to create a certain type of pudding or cake.

However, for those candidates who are interested in receiving some professional qualification in this field we would like to inform you that mostly there are not any bachelor’s degree programmes in bakery and confectionery.

But many good colleges offer diploma programmes wherein trained faculty imparts education in the field of baking and confectionery to students. SGT University is one such college which offers one year duration “Diploma in Bakery and Confectionery” programme to candidates. In this course, one academic year comprises of 34-36 weeks of training and its duration is one year.

The Diploma in Bakery and Confectionery programmes at SGT University is offered under the Faculty of Hotel & Tourism Management. The college offers admission to only 20 candidates in one academic session. The admission process for the same commences in the month of August.

Eligibility

It is advisable that if one is seeking admission in a bakery and confectionery course then he/she should be acquainted with baking methodology as well as basic techniques of food preparation.

Apart from this, in order to secure admissions in diploma programmes in bakery and confectionery field, one should have cleared their 10+2 from a recognised board with atleast 45% aggregate.

Admission Process

In most colleges candidates are offered admissions in the bakery and confectionery course if they meet the eligibility criteria. However, if a scenario so arises wherein applications received for admissions are up to three times the intake then in such a situation, an entrance exam is conducted to offer admissions to deserving candidates.

Fee

Taking SGT University’s course as a reference, the fee charged for a Diploma programme in Bakery and Confectionery is around Rs 1,50,000 per annum.
