Mystory@Sahana Roy: What I gained from my college years

1 min readUpdated on Apr 12, 2017 13:55 IST

I had always been a back bencher; failing to clear all the subjects throughout the year. In the last semester exam, I managed to score the minimum marks to get promoted. This was one of the parts of my academic life till Class 12.

After Class 12, I noticed all my friends applying to different universities and colleges while I applied to only one university and that was Banaras Hindu University(BHU). I remember one of my friends telling me that I would never make it and that I should apply to lesser known colleges. Just as I was about to lose all hopes, the results were declared and I got selected. That was the first time I ever felt confident.

When I joined the college, I was excited as well as intimidated at the same time. On my first day of hostel, I remember everyone boasting about their early achievements, their academic marks and prizes that they won in different competitions. Hearing all of it I felt small in the group as I had no achievements to talk about.  I acknowledged the fact that luck can get me here but it won't take me any further and I had to work hard. So, I participated in almost all the college events, bagged many prizes and most importantly gained my confidence back.

Both DU and BHU are brands in India.

You can refer NIRF ranking and consider other factors like fees, location etc.

In my view DU is slighlt bigger brand.
