The Law School Admission Council (LSAC) Global offers two scholarships to budding lawyers who appear for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). The scholarships include the LSAT India Topper Scholarship and the Shamnad Basheer Access to Justice Scholarship. Till 2019, LSAC only offered topper scholarship to candidates who got top scores in the LSAT India entrance exam. Prof. Shamnad Basheer Access to Justice Scholarship was introduced in 2020, for which candidates have to submit an essay on the assigned topic and submit it before the last date. What’s included?  

Both the scholarships cover the awarded candidate’s tuition fees and accommodation amount for the first year of law degree, up to a limit of INR 2 lakh.

If the above two components are less than INR 2 lakh then the remaining amount of scholarship is used for the second year of law degree.

  • The candidate should be enrolled in a five-year law course at an LSAC Global Alliance college
  • The candidate should should not accept any other scholarship

  • The candidate should win the essay competition
  • The candidate should register and appear for LSAT India exam
  • The candidate should secure admission to a five-year LLB course at any top law school accepting LSAT India scores
  • The candidate should be an Indian citizen

About Prof. Shamnad Basheer Access to Justice Scholarship Essay Competition

Candidates have to submit an essay on The effect of Artificial Intelligence on Diversity in the Legal Profession’ wherein, the arguments with reasons for ‘against or for’ should be given on the following:

Q:   How can I apply to colleges accepting LSAT India scores?

A:
A candidate who wants to apply to a law college that accepts LSAT India first needs to check the eligibility criteria for the law course to which he wants to get admission. He or she must check the LSAT India score required to study a particular programme and other factors associated with the eligibility criteria. If the candidate meets the eligibility criteria, he or she must fill out the application or admission form and pay the application fee. Once the application is submitted and the application process is closed, the institution will release merit lists for admission to the course. Some institutions directly accept admission based on LSAT India scores. However, many other colleges invite candidates for personal interviews or other processes after the release of merit lists. Once all processes are done, institutions submit documents and a course or semester fee to complete the admission process.

Q:   What are the eligibility criteria for LSAT India exam?

A:
All applicants who complete the LSAT India test registration form, including uploading a photo and an electronic copy of a valid photo ID, pay the registration fee on time, and adhere to the guidelines published by the LSAT India exam authority are eligible to take the exam. Multiple legal schools in India accept the LSAT India as a single test for entrance. Before choosing to register for the LSAT India, it is the candidate's responsibility to be aware of the eligibility conditions of the law school to which he or she is applying. As a result, there are no specified requirements for taking the ISAT in India. The LSAT India exam body will not refund test fees if a candidate registers for the exam only to find out they are disqualified for admission to the desired law school. Candidates are urged to visit the websites of the different law colleges to learn more about the eligibility requirements of the LSAT India Associated Law Colleges.

Q:   Is there an age limit to apply for LSAT India?

A:

There is typically no specified age limit to apply for LSAT India. The LSAT India exam is primarily focused on assessing a candidate's analytical and logical reasoning skills, along with their reading comprehension abilities. It does not have an age-related eligibility criterion.

LSAT India is open to candidates who have completed their 10+2 education and meet the other specified eligibility criteria set by the participating law schools or institutions where the LSAT India scores are accepted. These criteria may include educational qualifications and minimum marks, but age is generally not a factor.

However, it's essential to verify the most current eligibility requirements by checking the official LSAT India website or contacting the respective law schools or institutions where you intend to apply, as admission policies and criteria can change over time.

  • Having a legal professional class (lawyers, judges, etc.)
  • Characterized by diversity of gender, caste, wealth status, language, and regional identity makes for a more just legal system.

How to submit the essay?

  • The word limit of the essay should not be more than 1200 words
  • The document should have ‘double space’ within the lines and 1-inch margin on both sides
  • The document should be in Microsoft word format only (PDFs or any other document will not be accepted)
  • The file name should be Last name, First Name_Shortened Name of Essay, for example, Kumar, Akshay_Right to Privacy
  • Send the essay to the email address (mention below) with subject line ‘Diversity Essay’ and a cover letter mentioning the title of the essay, your full name, your phone number, a valid email ID and mailing address:

  • The essay submitted should be of high quality wherein, clarity of content, persuasiveness, and quality of writing will be considered
  • The essay submission should be in full compliance with the competition rules as mentioned above.
