FTII JET is conducted either by FTII Pune or SRFTI Kolkata to short candidates for admission offered by these two institutes. In 2024, the FTII JET exam was conducted by SRTFI Kolkata. The admission of shortlisted candidates is done into two wings - Film and TV for postgraduate and post-graduate diploma courses.

FTII JET 2025: The Film and Television Institute of India Joint Entrance Test (FTII JET) is a national-level entrance exam that is conducted on an annual basis. FTII JET is conducted either by FTII Pune or SRFTI Kolkata to short candidates for admission offered by these two institutes. In 2024, the FTII JET exam was conducted by SRTFI Kolkata. The admission of shortlisted candidates is done into two wings - Film and TV for postgraduate and post-graduate diploma courses. 

There are two wings in FTII - 

Film Wing: Where candidates are given admission into courses such as direction & screenplay, writing, editing, acting, cinematography, feature film screenplay writing, sound designing and recording, and art direction & production design.

Q:   Which institutes can I get via JET exam?

A:

On clearing the Joint Entrance Test (JET), students can get admission into Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) as well as the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute of India (SRFTI). These two premiere institutes are the conducting body of FTII JET as well. Candidates who qualify in this exam will be eligibile to take up film making related courses in either of the two institutes.

Q:   What if I have not completed graduation by the time of FTII JET? Can I still apply?

A:

If candidate has not completed their graduation or if they are awaiting their graduation results by the time of FTII JET exam, they can still take the test. However, they will have to submit the proof of their graduation qualification during the document verification process. If they fail to do so, their candidature will be rejected, no matter if they qualify in the test.

Q:   How much to score to qualify the FTII entrance exam?

A:

There is a cut off which is defined after the exam is conducted. The FTII JET cut off is defined based on various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, total number of applicants who appeared in the exam and the shifts under which the exam is conducted. Candidates who score equal to or more than the FTII JET cut off will qualify in the exam. As far as the minimum passing marks of FTII JET varies, the minimum final cut-off marks to qualify for admission in FTII for General Category is 50% for General category while that for OBC NCL category is 45%.

Television wing: Where admission is given to candidates into courses such as directions, electronic cinematography, sound recording & television engineering, and video editing.

The eligibility criteria for the entrance exam are prescribed by the exam conducting authority. Candidates who wish to take admission into the premier filmmaking institute in India must meet the minimum eligibility criteria. The application form for FTII JET is released in online mode on its official website. Candidates need to fill in the application form before the last date to ensure that they have a chance to appear in the exam. Those candidates who fill in the application form successfully will be issued the admit card to appear in the exam.

FTII JET 2025 Admit Card

The FTII JET admit card is issued by the exam conducting authority to all the aspirants whi have successfully submitted the application form. The admit card will be issued on its official website and candidates will have to download it using their login credentials. They will have to carry the admit card and produce it during the JET exam.

Q:   What is the passing marks for FTII JET?

A:

The minimum passing marks for the Film and Television Institute of India Joint Entrance Test varies, however, the minimum final cut-off marks to qualify for admission in FTII are: i) 50% for General category. ii) 45% for OBC NCL category. iii) 40% for SC/ST category.

Q:   Can I apply for more than one course at FTII?

A:

Yes, candidates can apply for more than one course from each of the three groups on the FTII JET application form. However, candidates will have to pay the application fee for like wise as the FTII JET application fee for one course is INR 2,000/-, for two courses it is INR 3,000/- (2000 + 1000) and for three courses it is INR 4,000/- (2000 + 1000 + 1000).

Q:   Can I get a scholarship to get into FTII?

A:

According to FTII, Pune's website, there are several scholarships that the institute offers and several others that potential students can avail. The institute offers the following scholarships based on merit and performance credits during the students' time there. 

  1. Entrance Exam Merit - Given to toppers in each of the film wing courses; INR 12,500 per year. 
  2. 1st Semester Merit - Given to the first 3 toppers; Common Module (Editing, Sound Recording & Sound Design, Art Direction & Production Design and Screenplay Writing); 1st topper get INR 24,000, 2nd gets INR 21,500 and the 3rd gets INR 19,000 every year
  3. Given to acting topper; INR 24,000 / year
  4. Given to screenplay writing topper; INR 24,000 / year
  5. 2nd to 5th Semester Merit - Given to the 1st and 2nd topper of each course; INR 13,500 and INR 11,500 respectively.

Q:   What is the age limit for FTII JET?

A:

To fill the application form of the Film and Television Institute of India Joint Entrance Test (FTII JET) examination. Candidates must be minimum 21 years of age. The minimum educational qualification required for candidates to apply for the FTII JET examination is graudation in any discipline. However, for candidates who want to apply for Art Direction and Production Design course they will have to have a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Arts, Architecture, Painting, Sculpture, Interior Design or related fields in Fine Arts.

Q:   What is the reservation criteria in the FTII JET?

A:

The reservation of seats in each course is decided as per government rules. The classification of seats for various reserve categories in the FTII Pune is as per the below table:

FTII JET 2025 Exam Pattern

To qualify for any entrance exam and not just the FTII JET candidates need to refer to the exam pattern to understand the sections, time duration, and marking scheme of the exam. The FTII JET exam is conducted in offline (pen-paper) mode. The FTII JET question paper has two parts - Paper I and Paper II. Paper 1 is objective type and paper 2 is descriptive. Aspirants will have to attempt all the questions in three hours duration. The exam question paper is of 100 marks, and is divided as below:

Paper I: (Time provision 60 min.)

  • Part A: Multiple Choice Questions (Single Answer type): 20 marks [on OMR sheet]
  • Part B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQs): 30 marks [on OMR sheet]

Paper II: (Time provision 120 min.)

  • Descriptive Answer Questions: 50 marks

FTII JET 2025 Syllabus

Along with the exam pattern of FTII JET candidates are also advised to check the FTII JET syllabus which includes topics like Art & craft of Film & TV, Allied Arts, Literature, General Awareness, Environmental Awareness, General Knowledge related to Art and culture and Media, etc for Part A of Paper I and in Part B of Paper I specific questions are asked. Paper II is subjective and it includes long descriptive questions, questions (including sketches photographs, etc.), and short note questions based on the subject.

FTII Entrance Exam 2025 Result

The exam conducting authority will declare the FTII JET results 2025 on its official website. The results will be prepared based on a separate merit list by FTII. Upon declaration, candidates will have to check their results by logging into the official website and clicking on the results option. They will have to choose the course for which they have appeared in the exam and their results will be displayed on the screen in a PDF format. They must then download and save the scorecard for future reference. Based on the result the merit list will be prepared by considering 

The number of students who appeared in the entrance test, total marks scored by candidates, difficulty level of the exam, previous year's merit list trends, vacancies per course offered by FTII

And reservation of seats according to FTII reservation policy.

After the FTII JET results are declared, candidates will be intimated about the counseling schedule. They must reach the allotted venue at the given time for FTII JET counseling 2025 and further admission process. The FTII JET Counselling process will be held in 2 rounds of personal interview and orientation.
