FTII JET 2025: Exam Dates, Fees, Registration, Eligibility, Syllabus, Results

FTII JET is a national-level entrance exam conducted annually for candidates who wish to be admitted to postgraduate and post-graduate diploma courses. A Joint Entrance Test (JET) is conducted by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, and Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata to shortlist candidates for admissions in the two institutes. There are two wings under FTII -

• Film Wing: It offers courses such as direction & screenplay writing, editing, acting, cinematography, feature film screenplay writing, sound designing and recording and art direction & production design
• Television wing: It offers courses such as directions, electronic cinematography, sound recording & television engineering, and video editing.

Since these two institutes are well-renowned for their film and TV Courses, approximately 5 to 6 thousand students register for the exam. Relatively, the number of seats offered by the institutes is quite low which increases competition and makes the exam more popular and desirable among aspiring students.

Candidates interested in taking admission in either of two institutes (FTII or SRFTI), have to fill out the FTII JET application form. Before that, they must ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions as put by the exam body. Steps to successfully register for FTII JET are provided below.

Step 1: Register for JET

Fill out the JET 2025 application form available on the official website (when applications open). Create a login ID and provide the required details. Once the details are filled in, candidates have to confirm their registration. 

Step 2: Completion of the FTII JET application form

Candidates have to log in with their application number and date of birth to complete the second step of their registration. In this step, candidates have to provide their personal information, such as address, ID proof number, educational details, etc.

Step 3: Select the test centre

FTII JET is conducted in 28 cities across the country. At the time of registration, the candidates have to select two test cities as per their preference from the drop-down menu. After the last date of registration, candidates are allotted one of the two preferred cities. In the rare case that a candidate is not allotted any of the preferred cities, he/ she will be allotted a different nearby city.

Step 4: Upload the documents

The next step is to upload a photograph, signature, educational documents and reservation certificates (if any).

Step 5: Pay the application fee

After successfully submitting the form, there's paying the application fee. Candidates could pay the fee online through a Credit Card/ Debit Card.

Note: Please note that for the courses which are offered by both institutes, a candidate will have to pay the registration fee only once, and he/she will be considered for admission to both institutes. The fee paid will be non–non-refundable, non–non-transferable and non–non-adjustable under any circumstances. Bank charges for online transactions will have to be borne by the applicant.

FTII JET Eligibility Criteria

Students who wish to study in FTII or SRFTI must meet the minimum eligibility criteria set by the exam authorities. Aspirants must be above the age of 21 years. The minimum educational qualification required to be eligible for application for all courses except 3 3-year PG Diploma in Art Direction & Production Design and 3-year UG Certificate course in Animation & Visual Effects Design is Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in any discipline. 

For 3 Year PG Diploma in Art Direction & Production Design and 3 Year UG Certificate course in Animation & Visual Effects Design, the required educational qualifications are: 

Note: Candidates appearing for the final year of their Bachelor’s degree and awaiting results, can also apply for all PG Diploma and PG Certificate courses. Similarly, candidates appearing in H.S.C (12th standard) or the final year of a Government-recognised diploma (Minimum of 2 years) after S.S.C and awaiting results, can also apply for a UG Certificate course. 

However, it may be noted that such candidates, if selected, can join the course, only if they submitted their mark sheet, passing certificate, from the Controller of Examinations/ Principal/ Registrar or any other equivalent competent authority of the University/ Institution/ College, stating that the candidate has appeared for his/ her graduation examination/ H. S. C. Board examination/ final year of a minimum 2-year long Government-recognised diploma after passing.

Reservations

In each course, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST), 27% for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “Non-Creamy” layer (OBC-NCL), and 10% for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as Gen-EWS. Further, 5% of total seats are reserved on a horizontal basis for Persons with benchmark Disabilities.

AGE LIMIT- Candidate must be above 21 years of age. There is no upper limit specified by the Institute for candidates.

NATIONALITY- There are no nationality or residential criteria specified by FTII. Candidates can belong to any nationality or can be a resident of any area.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS- The following are the eligibility criteria given by the university for different courses -

The list of FTII JET exam centre cities is provided in the table below. 

FTII JET 2025 admit card is likely to be released towards the end of March 2025. FTII JET hall ticket is a mandatory document that examinees have to produce while taking the JET. The FTII JET admit card is issued to only those candidates who duly fill out and submit their application forms. The admit card contains important details like the name of the examination centre, reporting time, personal details of the examinees, etc. 

FTII JET is conducted annually in offline (pen-paper) mode. The test has two parts: Paper I and Paper II. While Paper I is objective type, Paper II is descriptive. The exam pattern for FTII JET is such that aspirants have to attempt all the questions in three hours time. FTII JET question paper holds 100 marks. These marks are divided among different sections as mentioned below. 

Paper I: (Time provision 60 min.)

Part A: Multiple Choice Questions (Single Answer type): 20 marks [on OMR sheet]
Part B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQs): 30 marks [on OMR sheet]

Paper II: (Time provision 120 min.)
Descriptive Answer Questions: 50 marks

FTII JET syllabus includes topics like Art & craft of Film & TV, Allied Arts, Literature, General Awareness, Environmental Awareness, General Knowledge related to Art, Culture and Media, etc for Part A of Paper I and in Part B of Paper I course specific questions are asked. Paper II is subjective and includes long descriptive questions (including sketches, photographs, etc.), and short note questions based on the subject. The exam body declares FTII JET results on their official website. For the year 2024, they were declared on July 29, 2024. It is expected that FTII JET 2025 results will be declared in July 2025. The steps to check the FTII JET result are provided below -

• Choose the course for which you appeared in the exam
• Your results will be displayed on the screen in a PDF format
• Download and save the scorecard for future reference

The exam body considers the following parameters to prepare the FTII JET merit lists -

• Number of students appearing for the entrance test
• Marks scored by candidates
• Difficulty level of examination
• Previous years' merit list trends
• Number of available seats in courses offered by FTII
• Reservation of seats according to FTII reservation policy

FTII JET Merit Lists

Based on the students' performance in written tests and interviews, FTII. prepares the final merit lists. 

The FTII JET Result 1 is prepared based on the candidate’s performance in the written examination and auditions which carry a weightage of 50%.

The FTII JET Result 2 is prepared based on the Orientation and Interview.

The final merit list is prepared on the basis of Results 1 & 2 lists. Both results carry a weightage of 50% for final selections.

Candidates are intimated about the counselling schedule on the contacts they have provided during applications once the results are declared. They must reach the allotted venue at the given time for FTII JET counselling and further admission processes. The counselling process is conducted in 2 rounds, a personal interview and an orientation. The process is followed by a medical test after which students are admitted to their chosen courses. In order to get admission, it is necessary that the students clear all of these stages of the selection process. 

While preparing for FTII JET, candidates need to have a plan in mind. This is how candidates should plan their FTII JET exam preparation: 

• Have a proper preparation strategy in place. Make a timetable and divide your prep time based on the topics that you find difficult.
• Focus more on the weak subjects and leave the stronger subjects for revisions.
• Know exam patterns and syllabi thoroughly and solve FTII JET sample papers.
• Pick the best textbooks to prepare, but it is always advised to stick to 1 or 2 of the best books to avoid confusion.
• The aim should be to score well in the FTII entrance exam.
• Focus on your time management skills and on improving the speed of answering questions from the English and General Knowledge sections.
• Solve as many sample papers and previous years' FTII JET question papers as possible to know your strong and weak areas for the exam.
