FTII JET 2025 Counselling - The Film and Television Institute of India will release the FTII JET Counselling 2025 schedule after the results are declared in July 2025. FTII JET counselling is conducted in multiple rounds at the FTII, Pune campus. Candidates must attend this in person. those candidates who secure the FTII cutoff marks will be called for counselling and interview rounds. It is necessary that the candidates qualify in the interview and counselling rounds to secure an admission at FTII, Pune and SRFTI, Kolkata. The FTII JET counselling will start after the results are declared. FTII will release the counselling schedule on its official website for all courses and students will have to appear in the counselling process. Q:   Which institutes can I get via JET exam?

A:

On clearing the Joint Entrance Test (JET), students can get admission into Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) as well as the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute of India (SRFTI). These two premiere institutes are the conducting body of FTII JET as well. Candidates who qualify in this exam will be eligibile to take up film making related courses in either of the two institutes.

Q:   What after the FTII JET?

A:

Candidates who qualify in the Film and Television Institute of India Joint Entrance Test will be called for the orientation and interview process or audition round (for screen acting). Candidates will be shortlisted for the second round based on the scores secured in the entrance test. After that the final result will be released. FTII JET 2025 Counselling Process

From the year 2023 onwards, the FTII JET counselling for courses offered by both, the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, as well as the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, is done through the Joint Seat Allocation (JSA). Shortliste candidates appearing for the FTII JET counselling must be present at the centre at the time of counselling after which they will be alloted their seats at the institute.

The Joint Orientation and Joint Interview of respective Film Courses (Direction and screenplay Writing, Cinematography, Editing, and Sound Recording and Sound Design) of FTII, Pune, and SRFTI, Kolkata, will be jointly held online and course-wise joint merit list will be published. Similarly, Joint Orientation and Joint Interviews of respective TV Courses of FTII Pune (Direction, Electronic Cinematography, Video Editing, and Sound Recording & TV Engg.) and respective EDM courses of SRFTI, Kolkata will be jointly held and course-wise joint merit list will be published.

Also, Orientation and Interviews of stand-alone courses are held online except Screen Acting course which is held offline (in person). Along with the above, a merit list of standalone courses is also be published with the joint merit lists. After publishing all merit lists, preferences are obtained from the shortlisted candidates. Based on the preference(s) and merit, candidates are selected for a particular course in FTII or SRFTI. This counselling may be carried out offline in Pune/ Mumbai/ Kolkata OR online OR through system software, etc. The institute will inform the students beforehand.

Q:   How hard is it to crack FTII JET?

A:

It is a bit tough to crack the FTII JET exam because FTII is the premier film making school in India and aspirants from all over India apply for this coveted exam making the competition a bit tough. To pass through the competition candidates will have to make a proper exam strategy and allot equal time to covering the whole syllabus, solving the question papers and leave good time for revision. In the FTII JET exam students will be judged on their intellectual skills, general studies, English, general knowledge and the prescribed syllabus.

Q:   What are the eligibility criteria if I want to take up sound engineering at FTII?

A:

For sound engineering, candidate's need to have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with Physics as a subject at senior secondary (10+2) level also they will have to qualify in the written examination of the Joint Entrance Test (JET) of 3 hours duration for 100 marks, conducted at examination centres around the country.

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) exam is one of the most popular Film and TV exams in India. Q:   What is the marking scheme of FTII JET?

A:

The Paper-I of all the eligible appeared candidates is evaluated. On the basis of the performance in Paper-I, Paper-II (JET exam) is evaluated of only selected number of top scoring candidates (based on the respective category). The roll numbers of the candidates shortlisted for the evaluation of Paper-II, will be published on the website of JET. Further the shortlisted candidates will be called for the interview and orientation process.

Q:   What happens after the declaration of the FTII JET result?

A:

After the FTII JET result is declared, candidates who qualified in the test will be called for the further rounds of selection which is interview or audition depending upon which course they have applied for. There will no seperate admit card be released for the interview or the audition round hence candidates are advised to keep their written test admit card safe.

FTII JET 2025 Selection Criteria

The selection criteria for all PG Diploma Courses of Film Wing is given below:

  • For other Film Wing courses and PG Certificate Course in Television: The final joint merit list is prepared based on a Written Test, Joint Orientation, and Joint Interview of JET 2024 with each stage carrying 20%, 50% (20% practical + 30% written) and 30% weightage respectively, subject to qualifying Medical Test. 
  • For PG Diploma Courses in Art Direction & Production Design and Screenwriting (Film, TV & Web Series): Final merit list is prepared on the basis of the Written Test, Orientation and Interview of JET with each stage carrying 20%, 50% (20% practical + 30% written) and 30% weightage respectively, subject to qualifying Medical Test.
  • For the PG Diploma course in Screen Acting: Based on the performance of the Written Test of JET (Stage 1) and Audition (Stage 2), 'Result 1' is prepared with each stage carrying 50% weightage. Qualified candidates (as per Result 1) have to appear for Orientation and Interview. 'Result 2' is prepared on the basis of Orientation and Interview. The final merit list is prepared on the basis of 'Result-1' and 'Result-2', each carrying 50% weightage subject to qualifying in the Medical Test.

During their orientation/ interview candidates have to bring their original documents along with photocopies for document verification purposes.

Q:   What is the passing marks for FTII JET?

A:

The minimum passing marks for the Film and Television Institute of India Joint Entrance Test varies, however, the minimum final cut-off marks to qualify for admission in FTII are: i) 50% for General category. ii) 45% for OBC NCL category. iii) 40% for SC/ST category.

Q:   How much to score to qualify the FTII entrance exam?

A:

There is a cut off which is defined after the exam is conducted. The FTII JET cut off is defined based on various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, total number of applicants who appeared in the exam and the shifts under which the exam is conducted. Candidates who score equal to or more than the FTII JET cut off will qualify in the exam. As far as the minimum passing marks of FTII JET varies, the minimum final cut-off marks to qualify for admission in FTII for General Category is 50% for General category while that for OBC NCL category is 45%.

FTII Entrance Exam 2025 Merit List

Based on the candidates' performance in the JET and oral examination, the final merit list is prepared.

Result-1 will be prepared based on the written examination and auditions which carry a weightage of 50%.

Result-2 will be created after the Orientation and Interview are done.

The final merit list is prepared based on 1st and 2nd result lists each carrying 50% weightage in subject to qualifying on a medical test.

Q:   Is there any provision for re-evaluation of the FTII JET result?

A:

No, there is no such provision for re-evaluation provided by the exam conducting authority for the FTII JET result. However, if candidates find any issue with their answer sheet they can request a review of their answer scripts within a specified time frame after the result declaration but the chances of redressal is very low.

Q:   How are candidates selected in the FTII JET exam?

A:

As per the admission process of JET exam, candidates first need to quaify in teh FTII JETe exam and subsequent rounds of the Orientation / Interview process. On the basis of performance in JET, the list of candidates shortlisted for the next level of selection will be made available on the website of the Institute. The institute will send interview letters to the shortlisted candidates directly. Students final selection will be based on their JET scores, and performance in the orientation & interviews rounds. The criteria for short listing may vary for different courses for this regard canddiates are advised to check the official notification in detail as well as the counselling page of FTII JET exam.

Q:   What is "Freeze and Float" options in FTII JET counselling?

A:

Durint accepting the seats online, candidates has to opt for any one of the options either ‘Freeze’ or ‘Float’ for the choice of course for subsequent round (s), if any, of JSA 2023 – 24. In case candidate has been allocated seat as per the candidate’s first choice, above option will not be available and the only option available will be Freeze. In such a situation, candidate may either accept and Freeze the offered seat, or may reject the offered seat. Non choosing of Freeze option in this case will be considered as rejection of the offered seat and the candidate will not be considered for seat allocation in the further rounds, if any.

Freeze option - This option means that candidate accepts the offered seat and it indicates that they are satisfied with the allocated course and they don't want to participate in further rounds of seat allocation.

Float option -  This option means that candidate accepts the offered seat and it indicates that, their admission to a course of higher preference in same or other Institute is offered in subsequent rounds of seat allocation, the candidate will accept it. Else,  the candidate will continue with the currently accepted course. Such candidates will be considered in subsequent rounds of JSA 2023 – 24, if it is held.
