Jadavpur University to introduce MA in Journalism and Mass Communication this year

Mass Communication course in JU

Jadavpur University, West Bengal will be offering MA in Journalism and Mass Communication from this academic year. The two-year course is expected to begin from July 2017.

Till now the university had been offering undergraduate course in journalism and mass communication.

The Masters programme is designed to provide the candidates a well-rounded knowledge through theory and practical classes. The university plans to collaborate with the Press Club, Kolkata for the programme. The first batch will consist of about 40 students.

“We have plans to collaborate with Press Club, Kolkata to organise hands on workshop and training programmes for students to help them get field experience. Students will be awarded Participation Certificates jointly by the university and Press Club, Kolkata. This is the unique feature of the MA course which will be a fine blending of theory and practice,” university vice chancellor Professor Suranjan Das told a national daily.

MA in Journalism and Mass Communication programme will be offered by Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension (DACEE). The DACEE also offers Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication.

“We also have plans to collaborate with news channels and newspapers to get professionals to teach our students as guest lecturers,” the vice chancellor added.

Admission process for the course is likely to begin in June.
