XLRI shortlist and selection process

XLRI Jamshedpur will prepare the shortlist for PGDM BM and HRM programmes on the basis of candidates' performance in the XAT 2024 exam. The institute will take into consideration, candidates' XAT scores and academic record to prepare the shortlist. The process will begin after the announcement of XAT result 2024.

The XAT 2024 result was declared on January 20, 2024 and the XAT 2024 cut offs were released on January 29, 2024. The Interview call letters were sent to the shortlisted candidates via email. Candidates who will receive the letter, will be eligible for Group Discussiion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) round of XLRI admissions 2024. This year, XLRI will conduct context based Group Discussion, in which instead of a topic, excerpts from literature or relevant sources will be given to candidate to evaluate and discuss.

Q:   Which MBA colleges are available with XAT cut offs of 85 percentile and above?

A:

If you score above 85 percentile in XAT you may get selected for admission to top tier 1 and tier 2 MBA colleges such as XIMB-Bhubaneswar, SPJIMR-Mumbai, IMT-Ghaziabad, GIM-Goa, TAPMI-Manipal, IRMA-Anand, MICA-Ahmedabad, Great Lakes Institute of Management, LIBA-Chennai, KJ Somaiya-Mumbai, Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad, Institute of Finance and International Management, Bangalore, Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, Amity Business School, Noida, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, Xavier Institute of Social Services, Ranchi.

The XAT cut offs of the abovementioned colleges fall in the range of 85 to 95 percentile. However, in different admission years, the cut offs could be different. You should check the XAT cut offs for these colleges individually to have a better understanding of admission process for that year.

Q:   How is the XAT percentile calculated?

A:
The XAT percentile is calculated based on the performance of a candidate relative to all other test-takers who appear for the XAT exam in a particular year. The percentile is a measure of the percentage of test-takers who have scored less than the candidate in the exam. The formula used to calculate the XAT percentile is as follows: Percentile = [ (Number of candidates who scored less than the candidate / Total number of candidates who appeared for the exam) x 100] For example, if a candidate scores 80 marks out of 100 in the XAT exam and 20,000 candidates appear for the exam, and out of those 20,000 candidates, 18,000 candidates score less than the candidate, then the percentile for the candidate would be calculated as follows: Percentile = [ (18,000/20,000) x 100] = 90 Therefore, the XAT percentile for the candidate would be 90. It is important to note that the XAT percentile may vary from year to year depending on the performance of all test-takers in the exam. Additionally, each participating institute may have its own cutoff percentile based on which candidates are shortlisted for the next stage of the admission process.

Q:   How important is XAT cut off for selection to XLRI's PI round?

A:

XAT cut off is the most important factor in selection of candidates for XLRI Jamshedpur’s Personal Interview or PI round. Those who do not meet the cut off are not even taken into consideration for PI shortlisting. The two main parameters upon which candidates are short listed for the PI round are academic scores (class 10,12 and graduation) and XAT cut off.

Aspirants must note that they need to score as much or above the XAT cut off and should have a consistent academic record of high score to have greater chances of getting selected. It is not necessary that they will be called for the PI round if their XAT score matches the cut off. If any candidate with the same score has a better academic record, he/she will be selected over the other.

The XAT 2024 cut off for BM programme for male candidates is 96 percentile and for female candidates is 91 percentile. For the HRM programme, the XAT cut off for male candidates is 95 percentile and for female candidates, it is 90 percentile.

In 2023, the PGDM BM seats increased from 180 to 240 at XLRI Jamshedpur campus and from 120 to 180 at XLRI Delhi campus.

Under the XLRI shortlist process 2024, XAT and GMAT test takers will be required to express interest in PI by filling an online application form and selecting interview city. All shortlisted candidates through XAT and GMAT have to select the Interview slot within a stipulated time by filling an online application form available on the official website of XLRI or XAT.

The XAT 2023 cut offs for PGDM HRM program, for male engineering candidates was 93 percentile while that for female engineering students, it was 91 percentile. XAT cut off 2023 for male applicants from a non-engineering background was 90 percentile and for women candidates from a non-engineering background is 88 percentile. For the PGDM BM program, the XAT 2023 cut off for male engineering candidates was 95 percentile and for female engineering students it was 92 percentile. Male applicants from a non-engineering background required a 95 percentile and women from a non-engineering background required 92 percentile. The sectional cut off percentiles are also different for different categories and courses. You can check the official XAT 2023 cut offs in detail here: https://www.shiksha.com/mba/xat-exam-cutoff

Q:   When are XAT cut offs released?

A:

XLRI Jamshedpur releases the XAT cut offs every year in the month of February after the result announcement. The XAT exam is held on the first Sunday of January and the result is announced in the last week of January. And within a week of result announcement, the XAT cut offs are released.

The XAT cut offs are released at the official website of XLRI Jamshedpur and are available for download without login. The XAT cut offs are released for PGDM-HRM and PGDM-BM gender and academic stream wise. The document contains sectional and overall cut off percentiles for male, female, male non engineering and female non-engineering categories. Selection of candidates for the Personal Interview and Group Discussion round of XLRI admission is done on the basis of these category wise cut offs.

Q:   How is XAT score calculated?

A:

XAT score is calculated on the basis of raw scores obtained a candidate in each section. In the XAT exam, every correct answer carries 1 mark and every incorrect entry carries – 0.25 marks. There is no negative marking for skipping a question. But, in case of eight consecutive unanswered questions, 0.10 marks will be deducted. XAT has about 99 questions on which the score calculation is done. So, for example, if you have got 70 questions correct and 8 questions in correct, then your raw XAT score will be 70 – 1 = 69.

If you have not answered 8 questions consecutively, then your score will be 69- 0.10 =  68.90. This raw score will be further calculated to arrive at XAT percentile. Check here the XAT percentile calculation process: https://www.shiksha.com/mba/articles/xat-score-vs-percentile-how-much-xat-score-will-get-me-99-percentile-blogId-52337

Q:   What is the lowest percentile to get into XLRI?

A:

XLRI admission 2025 to PGDM in Business Management is based on XAT scores, followed by a PI round. XLRI Jamshedpur cutoff 2025 is yet to be released for admission to its BM and HRM courses. Aspirants seeking admission to XLRI have to meet both the overall and sectional cutoffs. During the XLRI cutoff 2024, the XAT cutoff percetile was 93 and 95 for the HRM and BM courses, respectively. So considering the preious years' cutoff, the lowest percetile to get into XLRI for BM and HRM courses ranges between 93 and 95 percetile for the students belonging to the General AI quota.

Q:   Are XAT cut offs same for all participating colleges?

A:

No, cut offs of XAT participating colleges are different from each other. These colleges fix cut off percentiles for admission individually basis certain criteria determined by their respective admission cells. XAT cut off for XIMB is different from XAT cut off for TAPMI. XAT cut off for XIMB is usually around 90-93 whereas XAT cut off for TAPMI is 80-85. On the other hand, XAT cut off for KJ Somaiya-Mumbai is 85-90. Most of the MBA colleges shortlist candidates for admission on the basis of overall XAT percentile. However, the candidates must aim to meet sectional XAT cut offs too in the exam to avoid an unwanted situation at the time of admission. Before applying for admission, candidates must check the selection criteria of their target colleges to be sure of requirements.
