AP ICET Tie-Breaking Criteria

During the preparation of the AP ICET 2024 merit list, if more than one student scores the same marks at AP ICET, the tie will be resolved by the following method:

(i) By considering the marks scored in Section-A

(ii) If there is a tie, marks obtained by a student in Section-B will be taken into consideration.

(iii) If the tie persists, the tie will be resolved by taking into account the age of the candidate giving the older candidate Priority.

AP ICET Marks Normalisation Process

AP ICET 2024 is conducted in two sessions based on the same syllabus, same pattern for candidates having the same eligibility criteria. Candidates will be eligible to appear only in one session. Since the question paper will be different for each session, there is a possibility that the candidates compare themselves to the variation in the difficulty level of questions. However, it is important to adopt a normalisation process to eliminate any kind of variations in the difficulty level of various sessions.

The normalisation process ranks all the candidates across all sessions on a comparative scale. In any normalisation process, the marks of the easier session may be reduced marginally and the marks of the harder paper may increase marginally on the global level, depending on the average performance in each session. If there is not much difference in the averages between the two sessions then there won't be much difference in the normalised marks as well. Normalisation marks would justify the candidates while protecting their actual performance.

The aim of normalising the AP ICET scores is to justify the candidates who have a difficult paper as compared to one who got an easier paper. By normalising scores, ranks and marks are rationalised. the following normalisation procedure is adopted to normalise scores.

SMS: (Average + Standard Deviation) of the session in which the candidate belongs to

GMS: (Average + Standard deviation) referring to candidates across all sessions together

Top Average Session: Average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates belonging to a session in which the candidate belongs to

Top Average Global: Average marks of the top 0.1% of all the candidates through all sessions together
