Q:   Is CAT harder than NMAT?

A:

Yes, the NMAT is easier than the CAT exam. This is due to the following reasons:

  1. There is no negative marking in the NMAT unlike one-third negative marking for wrong answers in the CAT.
  2. You can do guess marking in a last-minute rush and get three marks even if only one choice is right.
  3. NMAT allows you to schedule the order of sections during the test. This makes it easier to attempt the sections for which you are well prepared.
  4. According to the updated pattern, the CAT has only 66 questions, compared to the NMAT's 108 questions, but the level of difficulty is higher.
  5. The CAT is a concept-based exam where you need to understand each question, and therefore, you need accuracy as well as speed in this exam.
  6. The competition in the NMAT is less than that in the CAT. As most MBA aspirants aim for IIM.

Q:   How can I prepare for the CAT and NMAT simultaneously?

A:

The sections in CAT and NMAT exam are on similar lines. The space below mentions the similarities in the syllabus and exam sections:

  1. Quantitative Aptitude in CAT and Quantitative Skills in NMAT: The Quantitative Aptitude section of the CAT and the Quantitative Skills section of the NMIMS Management Aptitude Test are both based on very similar topics. If the candidates prepare for the Quantitative Aptitude section of the Common Admission Test, which requires knowledge of higher-level topics, they can easily solve the Quantitative Skills section of the NMIMS Management Aptitude Test since the same foundation topics are covered thoroughly in the Common Admission Test preparation.
  2. DILR in CAT and logical reasoning in NMAT: The DILR section in the Common Admission Test exam is a combination of data interpretation and logical reasoning, whereas, in the NMIMS Management Aptitude Test, the section is solely logical reasoning. These two sections of the respective exams are different from the other sections. As a result, anyone hoping to pass the NMAT by GMAC should devote enough time to studying for the reasoning section of the exam, as the syllabus covered in the CAT-D section will not suffice.
  3. VARC in CAT and Language Skills in NMAT: The VARC section of the Common Admission Test combined verbal ability and reading comprehension. Reading comprehension in Common Admission Test usually comes with tricky passages, whereas the passages in NMAT are relatively straightforward. Vocabulary- and grammar-based questions have more weight in the Language Skills section of the NMIMS Management Aptitude Test. However, the CAT VA will include reasoning-based questions. Students who want to prepare for NMIMS Management Aptitude Test and Common Admission Test at the same time must pay close attention to the Language Skills section of the NMIMS Management Aptitude Test after the Logical Reasoning section.

Q:   If I filled the NMAT form and chose 5 colleges and submitted the form. Do I also need to separately fill those colleges' forms?

A:

It is essential to note that while NMAT by GMAC allows you to choose 5 colleges as preferences during the application process, you still need to submit separate application forms for each of those colleges. The NMAT application form is used to register for the exam and provide your preferences for colleges. However, each college has its own admission process and requirements, which necessitate submitting a separate application form for each institution. Please note that you may need to pay separate application fees for each college, as mentioned in the NMAT by GMAC 2024 Registration process. However, the initial 5 college preferences in the NMAT form are free.
