The MCC has released the schedule for only two rounds. If seats will be left vacant after two rounds of NEET MDS counselling 2021, another round will be held. MCC will conduct the counselling for NEET MDS 2021 for admission to 50% AIQ, all seats in deemed/central universities, ESIC and AFMS institutes.
On Monday, August 9, the Supreme Court asked the Centre to provide the NEET MDS counselling dates by September 11. Earlier, a petition was filled in the court, seeking counselling dates for the NEET MDS 2021. The plea highlighted the fact that inordinate delay will affect the academic year of the candidates. The Apex Court directed the Centre to respond on the petition and provide dates for counselling within a week.
The government informed the court that the delay in counselling was due to the lack of clarity regarding the OBC reservation in state medical colleges under AIQ scheme. The Ministry of Health had also requested the Court to allow it to conduct NEET MDS counselling in a virtual manner. NEET MDS 2021 exam was held on December 16, 2020, and the result was announced on December 31, 2020.
This is the first time when OBC and EWS candidates too will have reservation in AIQ seats. On July 29, the Centre approved 27 per cent quota for OBC and 10 per cent reservation for EWS candidates in 50 per cent AIQ seats.
