BMLT Courses and Colleges in West Bengal - Fees, Cutoff, Admission, Placements

Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) is a degree course which deals with the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases with the help of laboratory tests. The duration of this course is 3 years and 6 months. BSc Medical Laboratory Technology is similar to the BMLT course. These two are often interchangeably used as the curriculum for both these courses is almost similar. BMLT is the most sought-after paramedical course in West Bengal. A candidate with a BMLT degree will never feel a dearth of jobs in West Bengal. This course provides knowledge and skill that is required to handle sophisticated medical laboratory equipment and perform related tests accurately. Being such an important part of the healthcare system, the scope for BMLT students will only increase in the future.

BMLT stands for Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Technology. There are about 29 colleges in West Bengal that offer BMLT course in a full-time mode of study. Out of which,  11 are owned by the Private sector and the rest 7 are owned by the Public sector. After the completion of BMLT, candidates can apply for jobs in a hospital, minor emergency centres, private laboratories, blood banks or clinics. A technician can become a technologist through further education and work experience. BMLT graduates can also pursue a master’s degree to open new career paths. They can choose to pursue MBA in Hospital Administration, to build a career in the administrative field. 

A BMLT graduate can earn up to INR 30,000 per month, depending on the job profile. This may go up to INR 50,000 per month with experience. In West Bengal, BMLT is the paramedical course that is most in demand. In West Bengal, a candidate with a BMLT degree will never experience a labour shortage. JENPAS UG counselling seat allotment result will be announced online for the Round-1 counselling. For the round-2 counselling, WBJEEB will release the seat allotment result seperately. A third, mop-up round will be conducted for the seats that remain vacant. Candidates will be able to download the seat allotment result for the mop-up round as all the updates/results that will be published on wbjeeb.nic.in. 

As per the official guidelines, a total of three rounds of counselling will be held including the mop-up round for JENPAS UG 2025 seat allotment. It is mandatory to participate in the counselling process in online mode. All the counselling related information and procedures will be available and followed via official website, wbjeeb.nic.in. Candidates are advised to check the important dates and schedule to stay abreast with the latest counselling events. 

As per the guidelines issued by WBJEEB, a candidate must pay a seat acceptance fee of INR 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only), to download the allotment letter. If the candidate fails to pay the seat acceptance fee, the current allotment will be cancelled, and he/she will not be considered for seat allotment in any future round. The online counselling process can be accessed through wbjeeb.nic.in website for admission to UG level courses.

Document verification is done at the time of admission in JENPAS UG counselling. Candidates must present the following documents: Provisional Seat Allotment Letter, JENPAS UG Rank card, Class 10th admit card/birth certificate, Class 12th marksheet, an Undertaking from the candidate as per the Proforma.

JENPAS UG is an offline (Pen & Paper Mode) entrance exam conducted by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). As per the exam analysis conducted for the previous year exams, it is a moderately difficult exam. A good preparation strategy will help candidates appear for the exam without much difficulty. JENPAS UG is conducted for the duration of 1.5 hours each for 2 papers (each carries 50 questions). Candidates need to answer Multiple Choice Questions and the medium of the exam is both in English and Bengali language.
