In India, the MBBS degree includes a compulsory rotational internship. The MBBS rotational internship is crucial for medical graduates as it provides practical experience in various medical fields and is a mandatory requirement for obtaining the MBBS degree and practising medicine in India.

The goal of such rotational internship is to train medical graduates to fulfil their roles as doctors of first contact in the community. The MBBS rotational internship must be completed within 2 years of passing the final MBBS/FMGE/NExT examination whenever in force.

Additionally, all interns are entitled to a monthly stipend determined by the state medical authority of the college's location. Interns receive a nominal amount as a stipend during their internship, with central government-run medical colleges providing the highest monthly stipends.
